“open in low season”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2014 via mobile

one big plus- it was open, unlike most other restaurants in maleme in easter week! we thought the season would have started but pretty deserted. by the way, no atm in maleme at time of writing, since the supermarket is under rebuild. nice place, and friendly service, we liked our starters lot, but the mains were average. it has a pub feel, and probably nice for a drink in the evening too, but we went for lunch

“Much food at good prices.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

The food is good, and it´s a lot of it. The chicken salad with mustard honey dressing is my favourite. The lamb-shank is excellent. Over all; the food is good, a mixture of greek, english and some thai dishes. The prices are good, overall a good food experience to affordable prices.

“A must visit for any Brits staying in western Crete, Chania, Malame, Platanas etc!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

A second visit to this wonderful island in six months couldn't pass by without another meal or two (and a few bevvies!) at this superb bar/restaurant in Malame. Run by ex-pat Graham (a happy QPR fan right now!) and his very friendly team, this place really should be experienced..around 20 minutes by bus from Chania and located on the main northern coastal road in the centre of Malame, you'll come across plenty of friendly ex-pats here, a wide range of alcoholic beverages and a restaurant menu that must be one of the most comprehensive on Crete...We dined here on a couple of occasions and the food was simply outstanding..indeed a meze style meal on the Saturday night we were there was one of the best spreads I've ever devoured on foreign shores..and I've devoured a few! It was easily the best place we came across to eat (and drink) on Crete...there's a wide range of traditional Cretan food as well as many other dishes from around the world and all prepared to the very highest of standards...indeed the rack of lamb on a mashed potato base with jus was quite simply the best lamb dish I've tasted anywhere...(possibly Michelin standard based on experience?)..I could dine out on the memory of the flavours from that meal for a long time. Service is excellent, the staff all wear a smile and it's just one of those places that you look back on with fondness...we shall return!! One tiny issue...Graham...get your signage sorted out..the pub sign is obscured by trees and you could easily miss it... and you really don't want to miss the Black Lantern!

“Can't rate as we didn't eat here”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2013

Went to the Black lantern as we were staying just down the road and the reviews were good. We didn't eat there as after looking at the menu there was very little we wanted. There were some very good greek starters but the main courses were typical of English pub food, cottage pie, steak and kidney pie, liver and bacon etc. I am sure these were very good but not what we were looking for in Greece.
