Flew out on the 28th August for a one week package with Olympic Holidays. The flights were with Small Planet and they were good and on time. The only downside was that my new very sturdy luggage tag ( a gift from Tripadvisor) had mysteriously disappeared! The transfer took about 40 minutes to Ledra. Check in at reception was smooth and efficient. The standard of our studio was excellent. It was large with 2 single beds pushed together and a small single. There was even a shower cubicle in the bathroom! The first greek apartment we,ve stayed in to have one! The decor was bright and clean and a toaster, kettle and t.v supplied. Rooms were serviced every day and the sheets and towels changed mid week. Our ground floor balcony was private and not overlooked by others. We didnt use the pool as it looked a bit cramped, so can,t comment. The downside to the Ledra is it,s a little too far from the restaurants if you have any walking difficulty. It takes about 6 minutes to the pebble beach but another 8-10 to the nearest restaurant. Don,t expect a huge choice of eating places, we saw only about 9 resturants and cafe bars. We ate lunches in Kyma( Waves) and Mythos and evening meals in the Ayepi, Perasma, Ledra and the Albatross Hotel. My favourite was the Ayepi as it was spacious with sea views and a large grass area. For children it also had a trampoline and a couple of rides. My worst meal was at the Albotross, the chicken fillet was terrible! We had one meal at Ledra that was quite good but " the barbecue night " was not worth 12 euro each. It consisted of salad, chips and pork kebabs. No drinks were included apart from a small customary raki that you are given at all the other restaurants in the resort! We met some nice people in Meleme and all seemed to be like minded, wanting a quiet base to both relax and explore the area. Hi to Jenny and Harry, hope you both enjoyed your second week.

A nice hotel in a pleasant quiet location. The room was spacious and adequately equipped, but most days we woke up to find no hot water. Most evenings too the water was only warm. We complained several times during the week, which usually seemed to give us about 24 hours of hot water before it went off again. We presumed that they were trying to get by with solar power only. This was a great shame as it really let the hotel down.

Went in mid-October and the season was coming to an end. Stayed ten days and I would only echo all the many great reviews of this hotel. The welcome was so warm and things were never too much trouble throughout the stay, including when we had the prospect of having to stay another six days because our flight home was cancelled due to an air traffic strike. Apartment was fine, pool was great, dinner in the restaurant really good. Maleme was a good spot to travel around Western Crete by car but in itself doesn't have much to offer. However Platanias and Chania were both shorts hops away on the bus and offered more to see and a variety of restaurants. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Apartment 27 overlooks the pool and has sun on the balcony in the morning but not in the evening

My husband and I have just spent a week at the Ledra Maleme and have enjoyed a very relaxing holiday. The welcome is very friendly and you are soon made to feel at home. Maleme is a very sleepy little village and is ideal for those looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday. A short walk to the bus stop where you can travel to the bustling town of Platinias which has more to offer. You cannot go to this side of Crete without experiencing the city of Chania with it's magnificent harbour. Don't be fooled into the eateries on the harbour front unless you have plenty of money with you. A short walk into the little side streets and you will find tavernas a lot cheaper. The bus station is an experience to remember!! As a base for discovering the west of Crete, you really cannot go wrong with the Ledra. Rooms were very spacious and well equiped with kettle, toaster, cooking rings and fridge (ladies, you will need to take a hair dryer). The meals served at the Ledra were excellent and good value for money and they really do look after your every need.

This was a real little gem, stumbled across this while looking for somewhere to stay near Chania. set off the road so really quiet. About 30 minutes by bus from Chania. The welcome we received was lovely, If you wanted to talk that was fine, if you didn't; also fine. Only about 40 rooms, but really deceptive as it felt as if there was only about a dozen. The home cooked food was fab, not pretenious just well prepared and delicious. If you want noise and nightclubs, don't come here. Serene, peaceful and just what we wanted.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the pool
