We stumbled across this place basically because we ran out of cash, water, petrol, sunlight all at the same time.

We were a little silly and headed out for a day trip with little cash and forgot there are NO cash machines outside of large cities, and NOBODY takes cards. This is understandable.

About to have a blazing row ( you know those moments) I asked to pop in to this hotel to see if there was a possibility they took cards and could feed us.
These guys let us pitch up for the night - explaining we had nothing on us, they said 'pay us when you get back to England' !!!????
They pointed us to a restaurant that took cards and gave us an amazing room.
The next day we found a cash point and filled up the car planning to return to our hotel in the north of the island...then we looked at each other and thought, let's not. We were already in the most amazing place we could wish to find.

We bought a few t shirts and swimmers and stayed for four nights.

Put this in your back pocket for your own trip. It was just amazing, exactly why we love Greece.

We have stayed at Mertiza a number of times. The apartments are well appointed, and has a fantastic garden to relax in, and the staff are extremely friendly , and make you feel most welcome. Mertiza is situated in a very small Greek village , with a number of excellent tavernas which have fantastic Greek food , and is a very peaceful setting if you like tranquility. The sea is very clean , and gets a blue flag every year, and there is some fantastic scenery in this part of Crete.I stayed there in June , and have already planned a further visit to Mertiza later in the year.I would definately recomend a stay at mertiza.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the second floor

First time to Greece for us and what a wonderful place to start the experience. The apartment is clean and comfy, airco very handy on those hot summer days. The owners really go the extra mile for you to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We stayed with two kids (9 and 11) and they could walk into the sweet little village by themselves to get an ice cream. Beach access is 3 min walk. Nice restaurants to go for lunch or dinner, good value for money. Good spot for exploring the south-east coast. Roads are oke to drive. Nearest eftpos (banking) is 20 min drive. So take enough cash money with you. I would certainly recommand a stay at this lovely Hotel. The beach is the play area for kids, so take some toys to entertain them.

We were here before as a couple 2 years ago. We had a very nice stay then.

This time we brought part of our "brady bunch" along: 4 daughters ages 13,14, 20 and 27. We felt very much at home and our daughters also enjoyed the special and warm atmosfere in villa Mertiza. The attention and service of the entousiastic Mertiza team; the wonderful breakfasts in the beautiful garden, the clean and well equiped rooms, it's all there.
Mirtos is a very nice little town with a nice quiet beach with crystal clear water. Don't expect disco's ; instead you'll hear live greek music in the streets of Mirtos. Climbing in the small gorge of Mithi was an exciting adventure for all of us. We also enjoyed the spontanious tour to the deserted town we made with Sacha, one of the hosts of the hotel. We'll be back!

Mertiza is a very nice hotel, with good rooms, a beautiful garden, a great view on the mountains and a very welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. A place to come back! The village of Mirtos is situated along te coast and has little restaurants where you can sit all evening, listening to the sea. The beach is also nice. Go to Mirtos if you like to enjoy your holidays in a peaceful, sunny and quiet place. Also a nice place for walking!

After previous positive experiences with Villa Mertiza a friend and I came up with the idea to organize a trip for people who have lost their partner: widows and widowers. Together with Dick we made a special program, the result was a fantastic bespoke affordable trip, including tickets, transfers, accommodation "Villa Mertiza" and some excursions. All based on half board and breakfast The dinner was used in daily changing excellent restaurants at Mirtos; Siemon has arranged perfect dinners, and took into account dietary requirements. An extra trip? No problem, Sacha took us on his day off to Agios Nikolaos. Mertiza gave us exceptional hospitality and highly personalized approach.
Mertiza staff: Thanks for an unforgettable holiday!

Mertiza in Mirtos in the south of Crete: a hotel to come back to! It’s accommodating in all possible meanings of the word. Very forthcoming hosts and staff, very clean and spacious apartments, a beautiful garden where people can meet.
Whether you visit as a couple, solo or as a group: you will feel welcome! The Dutch hosts do their utmost to have you spend a great time, without being pushy. Just ask. And… be sure to have a breakfast at Mertiza!

The village of Mirtos is small, two supermarkets, a few very nice small shops, a beach and a lot of restaurants. No disco, no restaurant owners trying to drag you into their uninspired places.

The surroundings of Mirtos offer all possibilities: tracking and hiking, car trips to the mountain villages, walks along the seaside, mountain biking etc.
My favorite: a 3 miles seaside walk to the village of Tertsa to have a drink and a lazy afternoon at the beach

Room Tip: All rooms are great!
