Well worth the effort....we drove to Ierapetra and caught the 1230 boat across, a pleasant 50 minute crossing. Being off-season the return boat was at 1700 but four hours was plenty. The taverna on the island had closed but you could buy beer and soft drink, and the food and drink onboard the boat was very reasonable. Both beaches were fantastic (the one where the boats dock, and Golden Beach, a ten minute stumble across sand dunes) - no wind when we were there, beautiful water - there are rocks as well as sand (it was the best snorkelling I found in the east of the Crete) but we certainly didn't have any discomfort getting in and out of the sea. The facilities are primitive and I can imagine it is less peaceful at the height of the season (particularly if you struggle to find shade), but that goes for anywhere. Highly recommended.

We had very windy so it was waste of time and money. But in good conditions it can be nice.
We had to wait for the boat too long, tha one before left some 5 minutes earlier then scheduled. This is typical for Greeks probably.

We went on a rather windy day (quite common on the South coast of Crete). All boats dock on the south side of the island, which was therefore quite crowded. We then crossed the island (10 min walk) to the north side (the "Golden beach"), which was so exposed to the wind that we couldn't stay, let alone swim. Back then to the south side where we finally managed to grab two beach chairs. The boat trip back (with strong head wind) was a bit of a roller-coaster...

All the positive reviews we read about the Nautilos trip to Chrissi Island turned out to be spot on. We can't fault any aspect of the day. Michalis was highly communicative both before we left England and during the trip. Yes, the boat was lovely, the food was great, the crystal clear sea was amazing during the swimming stop. The only thing new to add that hasn't been mentioned during any of the reviews is the exhileration of the journey itself in the motor yacht. Outstanding value for money.

This place is really beautiful. As we went there in September, there were not so many tourists.

Unfortunately apart from this, I would never recommend it to anyone: there are sharp rocks everywhere around the island in the water: impossible to get in the sea without falling... And when you try to rest on the golden beach, a guy is yelling "Water, coke, beer please", trying to sell his things. Really unpleasant!
There is no shower or toilets on the island. If you go away from the main path, you will find thousands of papers on the sand, from people who peed there. Seriously disgusting!

Furthermore, we learned on the boat that all restaurant places on the island were closed, so we had to buy everything on the boat (very expensive!)...

Really a waste of time and money.
