“Amazing Holiday”
Reviewed July 27, 2014

Location: Ierapetra is the fourth largest city of Crete, not as overcrowded with tourists as e.g. Heraklion. Hotel Petra Mare is situated at the end of sea promenade, about 15-20 minutes walk to city centre with many restaurants, pubs and shops. Hotel is located directly on its private beach and it really cannot be closer to the sea. 5*

Hotel: Hotel has four floors, first two floors as well as all the common areas are completely renovated. Hotel has beautiful restaurant and really amazing pool area. Hotel offers very rich all inclusive program and there are many options to eat all day long. Food was perfect in terms of taste and variety with many salads, meat and desserts.

People: Staff was very friendly, polite and helpful. International animation team also made great job and we had lot of fun thanks to them. Since this is family hotel, we didn't meet any rude or loud people. Guests were mostly Russians. There were a lot of kids, but they were very well entertained by animation team, so no one should worry about disruption of calm holiday.

Conclusion - pros: Hotel is ideally located, directly on its private beach and close to the city centre. It offers very rich all inclusive program, has wonderful pool area and friendly staff. Cons: Rooms on the third and fourth floor have not been renovated yet and they are quite old-fashioned. Beach is rocky and slippery rocks are also in the sea, so some water shoes are recommended.

First of all the place is marvellous since the hotel is located on the seafront with direct access to it's private beach. The major part of the hotel is completely revovated-all the exterior areas and the surroundings are great, the restaurant is cozy and comfortable to host many guests and the pools are simply amazing!!!!!
Very nice food, great variety and taste, many options on daily basis.
Enjoyable animation programme, to many activities during the day
The staff is helpful and efficient, Elena , Xenia and everyone on the restaurant and the pool bar thank you for your care & your kind attention
We will be back soon..

Room Tip: "Ask for the junior suites on the 2nd floor with direct sea views"

We stayed at this hotel back in 2007 and had a fabulous 2 weeks. We went last week September and first week October..... The weather was gorgeous!!

When we arrived we were put in a lovely family room with a massive terrace overlooking the sea! We were well pleased.

For the first 3-4 nights there was no entertainment, probably because a lot of people had gone home and they were probably waiting for a load more people to arrive, so the first few nights was extremely quiet.

A few days later a lot of people arrived and the entertainment began. The first choice staff did a great job, but for the size of the hotel, you would have thought they would have got outside entertainment in...........however, every night was fun.

The pool area was amazing, the location was perfect, and overall the accommodation was more then sufficient.

Our only criticism would be that they didn't really cater for the English with the all inclusive foods. There was plenty of choice, but not really for the English.

I would certainly return to this hotel again and would recommend it to others

We've spent a week at the hotel. We came as a group of 4 families, mine is with parents + 3 kids.

The hotel has good pools and beautiful seaside shore. It has a great water activities for kids. (the Banana ride was great fun). In fact, the hotel has what kids love. Free food, large facilities to play at and a pool with small Slides.. The dining room has the nicest view of the sea.
(Bring your own pool towels as the hotel rent each towel for 3 Euros)
The Port in nearby . 15-20 minutes' walk.

Food wise it is a good place mainly for Meat Eaters, as there are hardly good dishes for vegetarians like my family..
Many Russians choose this Hotel for vacation, Thus, russian had turned to be the offical language of the hotel as well, in all its papers and its entertainments events, alongside with some wordings in other languages.

All in all, this is a good hotel with a team which really cares and knows how to give good service to its guests. Would gladly visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view to the sea. Renting a car is ceaper in the car rentel on the opposite si...

We stayed in Petra Mare for 7 days In July 2013.
It is our third time in Crete. All 3 stays were in all inclusive 4 star hotels (so I have a good basis for comparison). Petra Mare was the by far inferior to the other 2.
Pros:
Great sandy beach right next to the hotel with plenty of free sun beds and water sports.
Good service: The staff was always polite and very efficient.
Cons:
The hotel is OLD. You really feel it in the rooms the noise isolation is very poor and everything looks like it is about to break or fall off.
The food is VERY repetitive even by all inclusive standards and not high quality.
The location is not ideal. It is about 2 Hours drive from the Airport and even farther from most major towns.
They charge you for stuff that is usually free in other hotels, like pool towels, cocktails and safe.
The pool is pretty but is not practical because it is very deep everywhere and the water are very cold.
All in all this hotel is OK, but you can get much better value for money in other hotels.

Tip: If you decide to stay in the area, make sure that you spend a day in Chrisi island. It's a real paradise.

Very nice place & surrounding at this hotel good food & service not the best but good. As i always said: not visit hotels - visit countries! Take a walk to town; rent a car ("Drive Now" nearby) for take a look allover the isle.

Room Tip: Soon there must be available bungalows that's must be a best choice

We were 9 people and had 5 rooms. We are all pleased with the service, the cleanliness and of course with the rooms. It was above our expectations! If we will come again to Crete we will visit
