just back from two wonderful weeks. havin read previous reviews was a bit wary, but needleely so. sure the food was VERY repetitive, but no one in my family ever went hungry! went with hubby, kids 14 and 7 and can honestly say didnt have any bad times. the kids clubs were still running-excellent! 7 year old couldnt get enough. reps were great fun, espeacially ryan and emma. the second week was very windy and temp dropped quite a bit. but we still sat out! pool was very cold second week so everyone headed to the sea. was great havin it so close. at night we left the balcony doors open to hear the waves crashing outside--lovely! hotel was very clean, maid service daily. we did see the cats but if u ignore them they just wander off. can honestly say this place is great, not for tourists though-bit remote! we were content to stay at hotel. the shops were usual tourist based, but thats all we needed. when we left, the reps said it was to be decorated for next season. would def go back

We have just returned from the Petra Mare Hotel in Crete and all i can say is book now! We are already looking to book next year!
Its an awesome hotel, thats totally geared up for families with kids of all ages,i have 3 kids aged 9,7 and 3 and they all loved it.
Especially the kids club & Rockin Ryan, who is like a God there to all the kids, they follow him around everywhere! ha ha
But he is great with them!! He is also great at making the adults laugh during the evening mini disco for the kids & the head to head showdown, which is always funny.
Rory is also hilarious and a really funny dancer!
The slides are only open twice a day, but its enough, my 9 year old couldnt get enough of them, she was always the 1st in the queue. Pool is freezing, but ok once your in.
Rooms are fine, very clean, beds made daily and clean towels daily. Not a cockroach in site which is a change for somewhere abroad!
Floors around the hotel and toilets are very slippery, as they are constantly being mopped. As is the floor near the slides and lazy river, dont run there or you will slip! I saw a few kids landing on their bottoms due to how slippery it is,my daughter being one of them, she had a graze on her butt! But was back on the slides within 10 mins of it happening.
Staff are great overall, the restaurant manager is very good and proffessional and couldnt do enough when my husband was ill 1 of the days we were there and i asked to take food up to the room, he was more than happy to help me. Food is amazing too, with loads of choice, deserts are the best though! Dont go here on a diet, is all i can say!
The local area is pretty and the few shops are well stocked, with souveniers to take home.
Beach is nice, but quite rocky in some places. But the sea is stunning, totally clear and great for snorkelling. The water sports are cool too, but i was a bit scared to try myself! lol Maybe next time. :-)
We had a family room which has sea views, which we had some lovely pics of.
So all in all 10/10 in my opinion.

After reading previous reviews i was really worried, however on arrival we had nothing to worry about, clearly some people are never happy for one why book a family hotel if you are going to have a problem with noise and kids running about. Anyway travelled with my hubby and 3 kids age 8.6.and 5, and what can i say they had a blast the kids club is brill, even when the reps were finished for the afternoon/day they still took the time out to have a chat with the kids. So big mention to all the reps Ryan, Emma Claire and Megan. The evening entertainment was what you make it to be if your willing to let your hair down join in and have a laugh you will love it, if you want to sit and moan about it being the same old, your on holiday enjoy yourself. OK so now onto the food if your fussy like me it can be a bit yuck, however i still found something to eat, yes the ice-cream is only served at certin times but its enough. Also the slides are only open 11-12.30 i think it was then 2.00 -16.30 but in that heat the last thing you want to be doing is running up and down the slides all day. The beach is shingle and grey sand which is bloddy hot, the water dips down so watch young kids and if your not a strong swimmer, however there is a flag system in operation . Onto theplastic cup debate think its a good idea who wants cut feet at the poolside and there is "real glasses" in the main bar and resturant.all in all could say loads more about how great this hotel but theres nit enough space, go with an open mind ignore the whiney too noisy too repetative ppl who clearly would complain about everything, if you want 5 star book 5 star. btw its spotless the cleaneres wre constantly mopping everywhere we joked we were worried about sitting to long incase we got mopped up.

Well, what can I say! We had a great time, 4 adults and 2 children aged 2 and 3 (the push chair gang!). The hotel was spotless as there are cleaners cleaning at all times of the day. Make sure you book a sea view room - well worth it. Pools great fun, slides excellent, lazy river is a very lazy river! Water sports great and as for the Zorbs - what can I say! Entertainment team do a great job with what they have. Market/shops fine for a bit of brousing, chrissie island trip recommended. Hotel food is fine, if you dont fancy buffet style then go to the local restaurants, good value and great food. All in all we had a great time, met some fantastic people and would recommend. The Castys!

Just arrived back from a 2 week stay at thet Petra Mare hotel.
There were 5 of us (3 adults,15 yr old and 14 month old baby).
We all enjoyed ourselves immensely. The only down sides for us were the transfer and the shingle beach, we prefer a sandy beach and this one was very rough on the feet.
The First Choice entertainment team and Kids reps are amazing. They do a fantastic job with the facilities they have.
I would like to thank Smelly Kelly, Rocking Ryan, Amazing Amy, Awesome Ayesha, Roaring Rory, Energy Emma, Chocolate E-Claire, Magic Megan and all others for the fantastic entertainment they provided us from 5th sept-19th sept.
You guys are amazing!!!
The room was spotlessly clean and the sea view was magnificent.
The promenade walk the the town was lovely and relaxing although the shops do not have a lot of variety for presents shopping...
Now on to the food..it was quite repetitive but as other reviews have said if you dont pile your plate up with everything in sight then there will be a good choice every day..
Overall the Petra Mare Hotel is well worth visiting and I would recommend it to friends as long as they haven't got very young children as the tranfer is too long and very bumpy.
You get what you pay for 3*..
The slides were great and the pools are lovely especially the kids pool with the slides etc and the sea view is magnificent..
The water sports are brilliant and a must do when you visit this hotel...
Overall we had a great time...Thanks First Choice..
