All these years 'Parasies' -as was the original name of the restaurant- has been opening its doors to foodies in a smaller, intimate and beloved place. A fire was set between two parallel rectangular stones and a cooking pan was put above. Thus 'parasia' was selected as the name of the restaurant, where the open kitchen dominates as a trademark.

This was one of the best restaurant that we experienced here in creta !!! Very good quality meals and prices are cheap !!! We recommad it !!

“Great food quality next to the sea near the center”

It's the best place after a walk in the city center or along the seaside. It's plates are of high quality and taste great. Each plate is cooked in the appropriate way for better result. All the plates ordered were tasteful and in great quantities. We tasted both fish and meat. Price is quite fair.

“Go for the meats -”

Compared to other places, their mat quality is exxcellent. They have a wood burning oven and cooking area (from the Cretan word for their name) and the person knows how to cook the meat, i.e. not kill it or cook it the way you ask. Very fresh potatoes andvery fresh salads andf some local ingredients taht you will not find everywhere. Due to its location, I tend to visit only on our way in and out of Heraklion when on business trips. When with more socializing trips, would probably choose somehting else . Do not expect less than 20-25Euro per person. their service is friendly and efficient, with a very good selection of local Cretan wines.

“How did this happen?”

Decided to eat here late on the 6th May (the Monday of Greek Easter). It was about 9pm when we arrived and we chose a table outside but right next to the building to give us some shelter from the wind. There were probably about 10 tables taken. We noticed another restaurant further up the square which was quiet and we sympathised quietly with the owners of that for what seemed to be hard times.
The service was good the restaurant was modern and nicely set out and the woman who served us had very good English and was very knowledgeable. I got the impression that she was one of the owners or managers.
The menu was on a large piece of paper and we were presented with a pencil to tick what we wanted to order. We had come across this at lunchtime (also in Heraklion) but had thought it was a gimmick. This lady told us that she had to have paperwork to show the government., although we never saw it anywhere else in 10 days in Greece.
We were served with bread, drinks, first course and our main course which was a lovely boneless smoked pork chop. A delight. At this stage the restaurant was heading for a rating of very good.
We got into conversation with the people on the table next to us. I have posted on other reviews on Greece about the freebies we were having, and I noticed that another table had left a platter of fruit and the table was not being cleared. The restaurant was now filling up and we really wanted to go ( hopefully escaping before the freebie which we didn't want). The waiters were not coming outside and eventually my husband went in to ask for the bill. He was told that the people we were speaking to had ordered doughnuts for us and hadn't they told us? He came back to sit down and we were served raki which we were told was from the people on the next table. There were now people serving who had not been there earlier.
The restaurant was now full -even people sitting on the uncleared table. Then I saw two young boys (under 10) who had been set to work clearing tables.
The kind people next to us went and my husband decided to try once more to get the bill saying that we didn't want to wait any longer.
This time he was asked if he could just leave it for 15 minutes because they were so busy so back he came to sit down.
Two people on the next table had now been there about an hour with no menu , no drinks and looking very fed up.
People were getting up and leaving and going to the restaurant further up which was by now pretty busy.
The loukamades (for that is what the doughnuts were) came and were lovely. By now it was so long since we had finished eating that we had room for them but we weren't able to thank the people who had bought them for us as we didn't get their details!
The toiletes were downstairs and on the way you went through a childrens play room which was empty. In the ladies toilet was a cupboard with a sliding door wedged open by empty milk containers and beer cans- strange!
Finally we had the bill and left some hours after arriving.
The delay was inordinate and had we eaten earlier we would have left after a good experience.
The next day I spoke to someone from Heraklion who said that this restaurant had a good reputation for food ( which is deserved) and was surprised to hear what I said. It was suggested that because of the economic situation, the owners of restaurants are unwilling to employ staff to come in in case it is quiet. This fits completely the scenario we encountered.
So after 47 reviews this is my first which is a "poor" but it was a disaster.

“Could do better”

I usually try to avoid restaurants in good locations, that is with view to the sea, and situated in city squares, because their proximity to city centers and sights makes them easily accessible by a lot of people, therefore usually they don't give a lot of attention to the food they produce on the table.
I was not wrong in this case.
Apart maybe from the grilled meats and French fries, the rest of the dishes were average in quality, although high on quantity. Service was quick and curteous, prices are in the 25 euro per person range for starters, main course and dessert.
Wouldn't go there again, as there are indeed better places in and outside Heraklion.
