Beautiful example of Venetian history of the city at this city center in Heraklion. Surrounded by covered areas where you can stop for a cool drink or some ice cream and take a break from the heat.

Stumbled upon this fountain while wandering in the walking area. Fountain is off and no water is running. Place is average. Pretty congested by restaurants and beggers vying for your business. There are semi transparent windows on the floor around the fountain that looks to expose some ruins beneath the walking area. No description around so I could figure out what it was.

The fountains is nicely located in the centre of Heraklion, right on the main shopping street. It is surrounded by lots of cafes, restaurants and shops. The local market is nearby. The fountain itself is loveny with clear water.Nice spot for a picture:)

This is a nice meeting spot. There are numerous eateries here as well as some great shops. Bougatsa is a must eat here. Watch out for pick-pockets and beggars.

The Morosini fountain is one of the reminders of Venice's links with Heraklion. Nearby is the splendid Loggia – as good as any building in Venice – and the church of St. Mark, now an art gallery. The ducal palace has long since disappeared, though one fascinating Venetian piece of history can be observed under the paving next to the fountain where a glass cover has been placed over part of the elaborate Venetian water supply system.
The square has been dominated for the last fifteen years by an ugly building site, but the work is now nearly finished and a rather fine building, the Vikelaia Library and cultural institution will soon add a touch of class to Lion Sqaure.
