“Fraud!!!”
Reviewed July 23, 2014 via mobile

We booked our trip to Spinalonga from JK tours. The day for our trip noone picked us up. We went to JK tours and the nice man told us the bus was broken so we could get a new trip in two days. The trip costed 58 euros for two adults and would take us by bus to Elounda, boat to Spinalonga and swimming with bbq. It didn't say anything about extra costs. Good thing we brought extra money....

The second try to go on this trip the bus picked us up on time. It picked up people in every city on the way to Elounda. Took about 2,5 hours from agia pelagia, which is crazy. When we got close to Elounda the guide told us to have money ready for the boat and bbq. We where shocked since it should be included in the price. No chance to return since we were like 2 hours away from the hotel we had to pay 24 Euros extra (for two adults). The boat trip was okay and bbq very simple, but would also be okay if it was included in the 58 euros. Then we got to Spinalonga where entrancetickets neither was included (4 euros). The bustrip back took like 3 hours.

All in all this trip costed us 86 euros, not 58 like we were told and like the flyers said. I doubledchecked everything and none of the papers said anything about extra costs. Glad we did't order a expensive excursion....

Just saying: never ever again!

“We would not use this company again”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

We were very disappointed with this company having been promised just an English speaking tour, we then found out (on the day) that it was in English, German and French and consequently the microphone was nearly always in use. We went on the Knossos & Lassithi Plateau tour with a few stops on route. They were late picking us up and they used a double-decker, 70 seat coach which was full and the time boarding and leaving at each stop was lengthy. We got back to our hotel 10 and one half hours after pick-up. We were also told that the tour guide would obtain entrance tickets, but this also was a fib – we needed to queue for 20 minutes at Knossos, which ate into our visit time. We would not use this company again.

“Good firm and three great days out!”
Reviewed June 8, 2014

We booked 4 excursions with Touring Club Crete. The woman we booked with was extremely helpful and friendly, and asked how our trips had gone whenever she saw us walk by the shop.

One of our planned trips, to Samaria Gorge, was unfortunately cancelled the night before due to bad weather - a shame, but nothing anyone could do about that! The Touring Club called our hotel and we were informed about the cancellation as soon as they knew about it. We got a full refund without any problems.

Our first trip was to Spinalonga, which included a boat trip with a stop at a small beach and a BBQ on the boat. The weather wasn't so great, but we still really enjoyed the stop at the beach. The water was so clear and you could go swimming off the back of the boat if you didn't fancy walking over to the beach. The boat was a bit crowded but I've come to expect this on these type of excursions. Everyone seemed to have a seat though. The BBQ was great - much better than I expected - with a large pork chop (delicious) and a greek salad, feta cheese, potatoes and bread on the side (and an apple for dessert). We then carried onto Spinalonga - (if you are a student, bring your ID as you will get in for free!). Our tour guide was great, she told us about the history of the island before we began our tour, and after a while let us explore the rest of the island at our own pace. We then got the boat back to Agios Nikolaos, a pleasant town by the harbour, which features a "bottomless" lake where Aphrodite used to bathe (allegedly). We had 1.5hrs to spend here and wandered around the town and had a few drinks in a cafe by the lake. All in all, a really enjoyable day.

Our second trip was to the palace of Knossos and the Lassithi plateau. Knossos was interesting, but I think it might have been more enjoyable to visit that outside a tour group. It felt a bit as though we were being herded through the site. Also, our tour took place about midday and the heat was almost unbearable - bring some water bottles with you!
Our trip to the Lassithi plateau was fantastic, I feel the tour group actually undersold it to us! We were driven up the mountains (some amazing views on the journey) and were told about the history of the region of Lassithi as we drove. When we reached the plateau, we headed first to the cave where Zeus was allegedly born to Rhea. The walk up to the cave is quite steep and rocky, but I enjoyed this as it felt like a proper hike. You can pay 10 euro to take a donkey up, but we just walked. There is an easier path on the way down, I think you can walk up that way if you want/need an easier climb. The cave is really impressive, and you walk down the stairs into it. It's a bit slippy, but there is a handrail the whole way.
After the cave, we visited a pottery workshop/shop where got to see how the traditional clay pots were made and (if you wanted to) you could have a go at making something yourself. I bought a previously made pot in the gift shop as a souvenir for the trip. Our final visit was to a monastery just outside the entrance to the plateau. I found this interesting as I had never seen an Orthodox church before - there was some very important icons there that we were told about by our tour guide.

Our third trip was free when we booked two trips, and was a visit to Heraklion - we stopped firstly at the Saturday market, where they sold lots of veg (we bought some really tasty strawberries for 1 euro) and a lot of clothes. If you're wanting to buy something, it will be a good place to go, but we mostly just had a wander around. After that, we were given a brief bus tour of the city and then dropped in Heraklion city centre for a 2 hours to explore. Following that, we visited the Crete aquarium, which was interesting but still a pretty average aquarium.

Overall, we really enjoyed seeing outside our resort and found Touring Club Crete to be a great company to travel with. Absolutely no problems and the bus to pick us up was on time our within 5 minutes of the scheduled time on each occasion. We'd definitely book with them again.

“Nice Excursion on Spinalonga Boat Trip”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

I've seen some of the other reviews but want to say that everything was great on our excursion. The bus picked us up right on time and boat was large and comfortable. The BBQ at Kolokitha was more than we expected. They served barbecued pork steaks and chicken with a nice Greek salad and a glass of juice or wine.

“Do Not Book With Touring Club, Crete!”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

We booked two trips with Touring Club through ELA Tours, Hersonissos, one to Knossos Palace and Heraklion Gypsy Market, and one to the Lassithi Plateau. Knossos was fine, but then we were dropped off in a car park in Heraklion that neither the coach driver or guide could pinpoint on our map so that we could find our way back to the coach. We never were shown the market, just some garbled blurb from our guide as to the general direction of it that no-one seemed to understand. We were very disappointed with this trip especially as we were dropped off back at our hotel over one hour earlier than stated by ELA Tours! The second trip was fine in its content, but again we were dropped off early - this time by nearly two hours! We would have appreciated the full time promised on both trips so that it was not such a rush at each stop. We took both matters up with ELA Tours and were just met with indifference. Be Warned - these tours do not do what they say on the brochure!!
