“a pleasant dream”
Reviewed December 6, 2010

we were at the hotel for four days in october and found it really pleasant and convinient place to be. the room was clean, nice, rather big, the bathroom was spacy, the reception area ellegant, the reception personel extremelly helpful , all of them, even the night shift were helping guests with the use of the computer, that was for the guests use for free, to the extremelly good and aboundant breakfast, full of different kin ds of breads, ham, jams, coffee, cakes, salad bar and ruits of the region, Everything was excellent, the pleasant people in the hotel and the prfect scenery from the breakfast room towards the sea from the sixth floor, to the convinient spot of the mere hotel, due to the fact that it is at the corner 5o metres to the bus station and the port. excellent for the adventurous traveller like us. We would for sure recommend this nice dreamy hotel to everyone looking for decent money , nice place to be in.

We loved our stay at the Marin Dream - our room had a balcony with a lovely view of the port. It was great to wake up, look out and see the activity that surrounded the ships and ferries and equally enjoyable to sit of an afternoon watching the passing parade while deciding where to go for our evening meal. The buffet breakfast was more than adequate especially the beautiful brown bread and fresh eggs. Best of all however was the service, in particular the care taken by Chrisoula especially when we were unable to get to Santorini because of a ferry cancellation. We are so pleased we chose to stay at the Marin Dream.
It's convenient to the town centre and the archeological museum. Great location.

For a 3 star hotel in Heraklion the Marin Dream is great. It’s excellent value for money – £42 for a room with balcony and side sea view – a lovely one overlooking the Venetian Fort by the harbour, and £47 with breakfast on our last night, same view though 3rd floor balconies are best, others more obstructed by ‘pillars’. Rooms are more orientated towards business visitors, not so good for longer stays as there’s no drawer space in standard rooms, but we managed with no problems for 3 nights – there is a wardrobe and fridge/mini bar! Breakfast in the Gazebo Restaurant on the top floor is wonderful – wish we’d had more breakfasts so we could have tried everything in the buffet! All the staff were friendly and helpful. There’s free internet access in the lobby on the hotel’s PC, or you can have free wired access to your own in your room. The hotel is in a very good position, only 5 minutes walk (uphill or steps) from the Archaeological Museum (proper museum closed at the moment, main exhibits in a temporary building, still worth visiting), 2 minutes from the harbour, less than 10 minutes to the ‘city centre’ (we may walk quite quickly). We’d stay there again.

This hotel is nicely located by the port and bus station. This is important if you are arriving to Heraklion by bus or ferry (or leaving). It is a nice business class type hotel. Friendly reception, small bar. The breakfast on the top floor, with views of the water and port was plentiful and yummy. Room was clean, with all the amenities. This is a relatively new hotel as everything seem new. The bathroom was nice and very clean. I would stay here again, but I doubt I would ever come back to Heraklion. The town was just ok to visit as a tourist. Only stopped here to visit Knossos.

The location is great as you can see the ferry terminal and only 10 mins walk. We booked through an agent 3 months prior and prepaid our accommodation. Arrived late from Rhodes to be told our accommodation had been cancelled and there was 'no room at the inn'. It took us a long time to try and convince them they were wrong, they grudgingly put us up at a so called 5 star hotel round the corner, the breakfast might have been 5 star but the bed and locaton of the room which was in a noisy part of the hotel was 1star. We were booked into Hotel Marin for another night on our return from Chania, which they told us had been cancelled - after speaking to the Agent they definitely confirmed nothing had been cancelled and we had prepaid the Marin. They upgraded us to a balcony room overlooking the harbour, small but comfortable, but they did not apologise to us for their mistake. There are other hotels in the area so would not recommend this one.

The Marin Dreams is very close to the port if you plan to catch a ferry to or from some of the other Greek islands. It is located in the center of Heraklion and close to many shops and restaurants. It also had a lovely breakfast room on the top floor that has a great view of the port.

My husband and I spent a night there and the location was super convenient. It happened to be my birthday as well and the hotel manager sent us a basket of fruit and a bottle of wine. It was way above and beyond anything I was exoecting.

Also I accidentally left my cell phone in the room when we checked out and didn't realize it until I has already gotten on a ferry to Santorini. Once we arrived in Santorini, I checked my email and found the hotel manager had emailed me about my phone. He sent it to me on the next ferry and I got it the next day - they didn't even charge me anything.

The people in Greece I found were generally very nice and friendly, but the attention and service I got from the folks at this hotel was quite touching.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, but especially if you need a clean, convenient place to stay with a very helpful and friendly staff.

My husband and I stayed here after a recommendation from Lonely Planet, and we are so thankful. Marin Dream was located in a central location in Heraklion. It's within walking distance to the central bus station and the port. We could also walk to some great restaurants by the water that are just a few blocks away. The rooms are small, but that's nothing new if you're used to traveling in Europe, but comfortable. The breakfast was the best part of our stay. You don't want to miss it! We will definitely stay here again.
