We are a couple from Barcelona. We always use Trip Advisor, but rates seem to be manipulated in Crete. Probably restaurants in the first positions are those pushing satisfied customers to write reviews. After trying those in the first positions we were disappointed. Many completely regular and non-special fast food restaurants ranked as if they were fabulous. This is why we tried to explore other restaurants in the list with a lower ranking and we found Thanasis. It only had 9 reviews but all of them were good. This taverna is a non-touristic place. We were the only two customers in the restaurant which is one of the typical indicators not to sit down. Unfortunately this would have been unfair. They offer very good traditional dishes at very good prices. The waitress was very helpful and very nice. We recommend vine leaves, fava and apaki. Food is far better to many other low cost places, atmosphere is very good, service is also good, and you can eat in a peaceful terrace in a non-crowded and non-polluted street. Too bad we discovered this place in our last day in Crete. (PD: they do not ask you to recommend them in Trip Advisor ;) )

First, the ambiance and views are amazing. Sunsets, beach and beautiful water! The folks that work there are so friendly and helpful. And the food---best Cretan salad and moussaka I have ever had!

The restaurant serves truly gourmet Cretan dishes (in the form of tapas,or ,in Greek ,meze)prepared with love and care by the hands-on owner-chef.We tried several items from the menu(carte)and each one was excellent. It is a far cry from run-of-the-mill, boring offerings in mostly all other restaurants in Heraklion.Portions are sufficiently large, and for a low cost ,you can have a diversified ,delicious gourmet lunch or dinner.A real gem in Heraklion, and well located right in the center ,with a romantic view of Agiou Titou church.

This restaurant is a must visit for dinner in Heraklion. The food was delicious and very affordable. It is a tappas style menu that is mainly meat and is true to traditional Cretan food.

The chef and restaurant owner waited on us himself. He gave us great suggestions and we ended up with the best meal we had in Greece (the meatballs with yogurt and chicken with cheese were phenomenal). The chef will also make anything you'd like (so if you're in the mood for gyros you can get them too).

We also received several complimentary shots of liquor with watermelom at the end of the meal. It was fun toasting with the chef! He made us feel like part of the family.

The restaurant is located on a quiet street where you can watch the locals pass by but also close to the happening nightlife on Milatou.

This is a must visit for a true Cretan experience!

Good food very affordable. Not touristy at all. The chef serves and explains each dish in detail. Try the warm pita bread with olive paste and stuffed vine leaves
