Stop here, go no further! The meze's fresh, abundant, tasty! The lamb chops...hardly any better on Crete, and the wines!!! Extraordinary good local whites and reds.
What else if not also the familiar and friendly service too!
You will remember and return!

We were looking for a good Cretan restaurant within walking distance of our hotel in Iraklio (Galaxy) and saw great reviews for Merastri on TA. The restaurant is on a street corner with nice outside seating with lots of vines and flowers that actually kept the street noise down. The inside is beautiful with large rooms and great furnishings. We were very warmly greeted by the staff and decided to eat outside, since it was a beautiful evening.
The restaurant people were wonderful the whole evening; excellent service!. We started with complimentary sweet white wine and then asked the server for recommendations for some appetizers to share among the four of us. We had fried mushrooms and vegetables, zucchini flowers, spinach pie, asparagus salad, fried feta and green beans. Everything was very tasty, fresh, cooked just right, with the fried items being very light. For the main courses, we moved on to delicious lamb chops. fish and rooster, and were pretty full after these. So we decided to pass on dessert. However, our server insisted we have something and brought out complimentary desserts with fresh fruit and some Raki!
I would highly recommend Merastri, with food and service of the best quality. The prices are very reasonable - we certainly got great value with this dining experience.

this will read like a roman: we had avery warm welcome by the a super friendly waiter an than shake hands with the owner. We started with a sweet white wine (Samos) with the starters. I asked for a choice of their best ranked starters ( Fava, Saganaki, baked cheese, beaked vegetables).
As a main course we had lamb chops. With the main course we had their local red wine, good strong taste( 75% cabernet and 25% Syrah). In the background, traditional Grec music was playing. The house is an old Cretan style combined with modern effects. The sweets were specialities with honey and everything was baptised with delicious Raki. We took a cab to go over there, because traffic is complicated in Heraklion and this turned out the best solution.
Like others already said: Don't leave Crete without stopping at Merastri !!!!!

This was one of our favourite restaurants during our 3 weeks in Greece. It had a very relaxed feel and the staff were friendly. The food was great, and we got free dessert (candied orange, yoghurt with honey and nuts, and fresh fruit) and raki. Prices were very reasonable and I would definitely go back to try more of the food if I had stayed longer in the city.
