I was hoping to walk the complete route from one side of the city to the other via the walls, but after walking for an hour the route was interrupted by major restoration works on the walls at Jesus Gate so was only able to take in two-thirds of the length, nevertheless it was a pleasant walk and the views of the city were well worth the effort.
Although I have not previously heard of Kazantzakis the tomb itself was well maintained and the gardens at the tomb area were very pretty, with lovely views of the city from the tomb gardens.
It is free to walk the city walls and I would certainly recommend walking part of these fortifications if spending any time in Heraklion. Hopefully from the photos you can see that it is worth the effort.
