3.5/5

Pros
- exceptional service from desk, breakfast and Herbs Garden staff.
- good location for Port and dining/shopping areas
-breakfast was the best we've had in Greecian hotels so far.

Cons
- rooms were worn and tired decor, paint peeling and rust in the shower. Not enough to make us dislike the place, just noticeable that it needs some loving.
- hotel is right underneath where airplanes bank to leave Crete, so they're going full noise right over the hotel. For us, not a major issue as noise doesn't bother us but for others it could be an issue.

Would stay again but needs updating.

Dear beech-bidois,
Thank you for having chosen Lato Boutique Hotel for your stay in Heraklion city.
It's great to know that we met your expectations in our breakfast's wide selection and in our rooftop restaurant's Mediterranean cuisine.
Our convenient location facilitates our guests when visiting numerous sightseeings and hence improve their experience even in short stays.
We apologize for the wear noticed and we thank you for your remark. Our maintenance has already checked and repaired. Moreover, we try to constantly renew our facilities & equipment so as to improve comfort.
We regret the plane noise although we have made sure to install total sound isolation with the use of double glazed windows.
It will be our honor to welcome you back, on your next trip to Crete island.
Best Regards,
Guest Relations Manager

You can't beat the location, especially if you are coming from a ferry or a bus. Easy walking right from either place and then easy walking to the lovely center of town, restaurants, etc. The efficient staff helped us with all questions and the buffet breakfast was diverse.

We had a harbor-view room, which meant a teeny balcony with a low partition from the room next door - when our neighbor also came out on his balcony, we were inches apart and had a lively conversation! The size of the room was also quite teeny - my husband equated it to a "pod" room and while it wasn't quite that small, it was small. Queen-sized bed was comfortable and all the amenities were provided (kettle, toiletries, safe etc.) but quarters were tight. For one night, it was just fine and we enjoyed exploring the interesting old part of town. While not as dramatic as Chania, still full of beauty and charm.

Room tip: Ask for a harbor view

We stayed here 3 nights in May. The elevators are very small. Breakfast is below average. Dinner on the rooftop restaurant was great as were the wait staff. The bathroom had an unusual configuration. In walking distance of cafes.

Dear BlueObelisk,

Thank you for staying with us while in Heraklion. We appreciate your kind comments about our restaurant. Our Mediterranean cuisine, as well as the panoramic view to the Venetian harbor, captures our guests' interest.
We are glad that you found our location convenient. It is the ideal starting point for discovering museums, shops, cafes. Moreover, due to its proximity to the central bus station and the main port, it is convenient for excursions around the island and for day trips to famous Santorini.

In regards to our breakfast, we regret it did not meet your expectations. It consists of local dishes made of Cretan seasonal ingredients so as to remain tasteful. Your remark has already reached our head chef for any further improvements.

As far as the elevator is concerned, we thank you for giving us the opportunity to examine any alternative that could facilitate our guests' stay.
Dear BlueObelisk, it would be our pleasure to welcome you back and offer a memorable stay.

Best Regards,
Guest Relations Manager

I can only presume that this is a decent hotel for the area of Heraklion. The town is not very updated and the people seem to live very modest lives. In terms of normal rating, it's probably a 3 star hotel, but again for the area, it's probably a 4 or 5 star. The bathrooms show its age and are beginning to show signs of grime. The pillows are hard as rocks. However, the room itself was clean, the staff friendly, the breakfast lovely and the rooftop restaurant regarded as top expensive dining in the city. The restaurant is quite good, the staff friendly, and the views are pretty. You cannot beat the location of the hotel either. Very easy walk to main shopping area and to main dining area. No excess traffic road noise in the 3rd floor rooms. Your standard noise from the room and people in the hallway. Would probably stay outside the city, along the beach next time and just taxi in to the city when we wanted.

We had a lovely one night stay here after our ferry from Santorini. All of the staff was so helpful and kind. Our rented vehicle was parked for free for the evening. We had a wonderful dinner on the rooftop with amazing food and service. The breakfast buffet was also delicious. We loved our stay and would highly recommend it!
