“Good pension but no way a boutique hotel”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

As in many places around the world here is another example that a good pension tries to lure more guests in (and obviously with great success) by putting the word "boutique" in its name. But the Lato Boutique hotel is by no way a boutique hotel or is it enough to throw some pillows on the floor and print the hotel's name on the shampoo bottles and suddenly a pension turns into a cozy place? Our room was small and without special touch, but clean and cheap. The breakfast room is unbelievable crowded at all times and there is nothing cozy or special about it by bumping always into other guests at the buffet. The reception staff is friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is great. So I can only recommend to the hotel managment in order to do fellow travellers a favour by withdrawing the word boutique from the pension name and nobody will be fooled by expecting something small and special, but a practical hotel in a good location where dozens / hundreds? of fellower travellers will stay at the same time.

Dear Doffa,

This is Korinna Alexandri, general manager of Lato Boutique Hotel.

Thank you for your kind words and feedback. I understand that your main concern about your stay was the crowded buffet area, as well as the lack of “character”.
Dear guest, I am truly sorry that your expectations have not been met. All Lato team is trying very hard to fulfill expectations and needs, as this is our primary goal. I wish we had the opportunity to divert your experience while staying with us.

I really though need to clarify few matters:
Lato hotel was established at 1976 by a well known local family who still owns it. The word boutique was added, and actually became a boutique hotel, in 1995 following a huge investment in renovating the property. Since then, four major renovations (in 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2012) occurred aiming to upgrade, update and expand the facilities, as well as refresh the interior design and aesthetics.

One may provide few definitions for “Boutique Hotels”, but all will agree that “size”, “location”, “design” and most important “personalized services” are the main elements.
Our property has 81 rooms and suites in two neighbor buildings (56 in the main building and 25 in the annex one), our location is, as you confirm, great and our staff-to-guests ratio is 1:6(!), so the services offered are tailor made upon the guests’ needs. Concerning the design, as stated, the latest renovation has been conducted within 2012, where the guests’ rooms have been totally refurnished with tailor made furniture and contemporary design. We believe that we have succeeded to offer a vibrant design, as well as comfort and we are very happy that this has been verified from the vast majority of our guests.

All these years, thousands of guests honor us with their repeated choice of staying with us while in Crete and we honor their choice with constant investments in upgrading the property’s infrastructure and aesthetics, as well as in improving the quality of the services provided.

During all these years we have been awarded by several international organizations and accepted few invitations of becoming proud member of well established international boutique brands. The most important award though is the great majority our guests’ reviews and feedback we receive daily.

Dear guest, once more I thank you for your feedback, as it makes us try harder to achieve our goals.

Yours Sincerely
Korinna Alexandri

Really nice. Great breakfast. Complementary sweets and Roki delivered to your room. Close to everything. Free WiFi. Could even see the harbor from our balcony. Best bed we had in all 21 days in Greece. Lato annex is across the street.

Room Tip: We stayed at the Lato, not the annex, and had a really nice room (even on the street side).

This hotel is in a great location: steps from the ferry. Splash out on a Superior room (501, 502) for a balcony overlooking the port. We had a pleasant lunch on their rooftop terrace (their fried potatoes are worth the 20 min. wait)

Room Tip: Splash out on a Superior room (501, 502) for a balcony overlooking the port.

We found this hotel by driving around. They gave us the last room and bonus it had a water view. The room was small but very clean with a nice bed. We went up to their roof deck restaurant for drinks and dinner. Very very nice
Good hotel if you want to visit the old port, museum etc

I travelled in Heraklion beginning of August with my partner and I have to say that the whole experience was amazing! The food, the people, the views and the city was of an outstanding level and alto hotel just fulfilled all our expectations! It is one of best hotels in the city of Heraklion and i highly recommend this to anyone who travels in Crete!

Room Tip: Go for the marvellous suite with the terrace!

We stayed at Lato Hotel one night en route to Santorini. It’s located in the centre of town within walking distance of the bus station and the ferry. When you get off the bus, look up and you’ll see the hotel.

Our room was located in the annex across the street from the main building. This was not a problem for us. The room was clean and cozy – bed was comfortable.

We had dinner at Herbs - their rooftop restaurant. The food was great and so was the view.

We would recommend Lato Hotel and would stay here again if we return to Iraklion.

Generally speaking: it is an excellent Hotel. Staff was very friendly, the room was nice, modern and clean, great view to the harbor. The food on the rooftop restaurant was excellent (the variety of wine and food was plenty). For the next trip to Heraklion I will defenitely stay again at this Hotel.
