Overall great. We ended moving to this hotel from another that was unsatisfactory and loved our stay here. Geat location, great rooms, modern facilities, great staff, amazing breakfast (included in price) and vallet parking for rental car.

We spent our first wedding anniversary here, and this hotel diffinately made our stay in Crete excellent.

We found this hotel to be very clean and well positioned. From the hotel it is an easy walk to all of the attractions located within the city centre. We are in our 50s but still found it an easy walk to the place of Knossos, situated some 5 km from the hotel. There are plenty of laundries located in close proximity to the hotel. The 'Wash Saloon' charged a flat 7 euro for washing and drying a bag of clothes. We paid 4 euros a kilo in Athens. If you are staying in Herakilion for more than a couple of days we would recommend taking the local bus (13.80 euros) to Chania which is about a 3 hour trip. The city is very beautiful and has a different feel to Herakilion.

While staying here, I discovered I had made an error in reserving our next hotel at the airport in Athens. My cell phone would not connect, so I went down to the desk to ask for help. George not only made the call to Athens for me, he spoke to the reservations desk, changed my reservation without extra charge, and did not charge me for the call. As it was the end of our trip, I was tired and confused, and truly grateful that someone took care of things in such an efficient and caring manner. Service like that should not go unnoticed. Thank you again, George.

Astoria Capsis was not a bad hotel, it's just not what you expect to get when it's the most advertised hotel in town and when you pay such a price.

First of all, it is highly uncovenient to have to give the keys to your car to be parked and not having access to the parking lot yourself. Even if you have to take something for your car, you have to tell the reception to bring your car from the parking and then take it again. You don't even know where your car is parked!

Second, all rooms have windows that do not block the sun. Curtains exist, but nevertheless the sun manages to wake you up at 7 am no matter what. Is it so difficult to install shutters? It is a 4-star hotel, it is more important to have shutters than a telephone by the toilet seat!

Third, and most important to me, when you offer rooms with wireless internet to your customer you have to make sure that this service is working perfectly and continuously. This was not the case for me. They were having a problem with the second and third floor wireless routers so that while the internet was working downstairs at the reception, I could not work from my room. I called the reception througout the day but all they kept saying was that a technician was on his way and that maybe it was my fault! Of course they didn't fix it until I left, the day after. Not even an apology was asked - that's tottaly unacceptable from me.

All in all, despite the excellent location, the historic name and its good fame, they managed to disappoint and enrage me. Avoid.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with view to the square - this way you may connect to the free internet from the muni...

Stayed here for four nights in June as part of a Business trip. The room was a good size, had an arty feel to it. The bathroom was nice and modern; both room and bathroom were cleaned to a high standard. Had a balcony, the view wasn't to be desired but I wasn't staying at the hotel to sit out on the balcony. Thankfully I had the final day of the trip to chill out and relax on the rooftop terrace. It is lovely and the views are outstanding. The pool isn't very big but it's a nice size to take a dip when the weather got too hot.
The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Bus stops were located right outside the hotel so transport was very efficient and regular.
