“Wonderful site but too many tourists”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2013

Knossos is one of the best ancient site in Greece, and the most beautiful one. However, there is so many tourists crowded in the site that really impacts the experience.

“Must see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2013

The Knossos Palace is a must see #1 in Crete. It arouses awe and respect for a civilization that is reputed to be the oldest in Europe and which by far exceeds in art, architecture, craftsmanship and technology that of the much more recent Ionians or Dorians.

“A must-see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013

The main tourist attraction on Crete and second most popular in the whole of Greece - don't miss it if you're in Crete. It's worth going on a guided tour, at least for your first visit, though you can buy a guide book for around 7.50 euros. Allow at least 2 hours - and it's rocky in places, so wear sensible footwear! No shops or anything within the site, so take water in with you and don't forget the camera and a hat.

“Simply breathtaking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2013

The shear size of the palace takes your breath away. If you love archaeology, you will love this site. Come prepared with a good pair of walking shoes because the site is huge. If at all possible, get a guided tour to learn about the amazing history of this palace. We were blown away by some of the stories we heard. It is mind boggling to realize that a civilization so long ago was capable of building such an enormous structure with the tools they had available. This is a must-see destination if you are on Crete.

“INCREDIBLE !!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2013

This is what brought us to Crete in the first place.

It is as fascinating as it seems.
The Minoans were so highly developed, with minimalist architecture, beautifully fluid frescos... they even had a sewage system and indoor plumbing, with the Queen having a toilet which flushed

Do pay to get a guide as you enter, it is well worth it .

Our Guide was named Ava and was excellent.
You get the guide right there at the entrance to Knossos.
For four couples it works out to be 20 euros per couple for two couples it was forty euros per couple or if you wan to splash out you can have your personal guide for 80 euros.
Prices might fluctuate, we came at the end of the season.

Many people think that this wonderful civilisation was
"The Lost City of Atlantis" !
