Owner description: These labyrinthine ruins are said to have been home to the monstrous Minotaur, a half-man half-bull creature that devoured young virgins.

After you have been to Athens and the Acropolis, this pales slightly. The local guides were not so nice to my group and were at one point, directly rude to us. But, I think you should still go see it - just to say you did it.

This 3000BC palace ruin has been partly reconstructed as to what Sir Arthur Evans thought it ought to look like and the frescos are copies the orifinals being in the Heraklion Museum.
Do have a Guide otherwise it looks a bit like a bomb site and read your Mary Renault to get a flavour of the historical perspective.

This palace is strange only because you're never really sure whether what you are looking at is original or not. Whenever you read about a certain room, it has two stories: The one that was imagined (and renova by Arthur Evans and what other archiologists believe.

Overall, I'd still say it is worth seeing. Some parts are very impressive.

Really as good as everyone said, we got an English speaking guide (Christiana) who was very knowledgable
And really brought the palace to life.
