Full of archaeological artifacts from Crete's very long history. Beautifully presented and well-explained. Much of the excavated matter from Knossos and Malia ended up here. Was very busy the day I was there and seeing some of the exhibits (or taking pictures) could be a bit difficult at times. Reasonable admission fee.

I am pretty sure the museum is not fully completed still but it is amazing even in this state. It is certainly easy to find (not like some other things) and is a cool retreat when the sun is blistering ones skin. The artifacts are exceptional and awe inspiring. I wished they had a good guide book but understand that it will likely only come out once the museum is fully functional. The marble walls and floors were beautiful (speaking as someone who just paid a small fortune for a single slab to be installed as a kitchen counter top). Don't miss this fabulous museum.

Interesting little museum with artefacts going back to 1600BC but the Roman exhibits were closed. Lots of items are really not that good as they have taken poetic licence to make up the vast majority of what the objects or paintings were meant to show

It is easy to do nothing much in Heraklion town other than eat, shop and wander, but this museum is worth missing a morning's shopping.
For a start it has a lot of the original frescoes from Knossos, all well labelled and explained and looking much more impressive than the reconstructed ones at the site itself. Many other items from daily life make the Minoans come alive. There are also displays from Greek and Roman occupation of Crete, again all are perfectly labelled so that you know exactly what you are looking at in each display case. The statuary is pretty impressive too!

We think we are advanced now, those Guy's were well ahead in some area's. The complexity of the jewellery is amazing, well worth a visit.
