It was a useful place to visit on a wet day and quite interesting but not worthwhile for a special visit unless you are producing a thesis.

Unfortunately it wasn't what I expected. I studied archeology, the minoan civilization in crete and its importance in the history that's why I was disappointed.
The museum is quite small and just few galleries are open ( that's why is so cheap!), it looks sterilised (like an hospital) and lifeless. There is no interaction at all with tourists and Visitor Service Assistant care more about their phones and they are quite rude when they ask not to take pictures.

Size of museum is manageable and large enough to accommodate many people. Artifacts beautifully arranged and described.

The Museum has been recently reopened after being closed for several years due to renovations. It accommodates first of all a large collection of artifacts excavated from the Minoan sites such as Knossos and Phaestos and they are beautifully demonstrating the unique culture of ancient Crete. It further displays objects of interest from earlier and later periods as well. As seniors we enjoyed a special entrance fee of 2E which is exceptional. However, the Museum still lacks the visitor-friendliness of similar western-European facilities. The signs guiding the public to the restrooms are confusing. There are no audio guides. Very few seats. In the shop, in late September the supply of illustrated cards is exhausted and poor. The signs describing the artifacts are often too small or uncomfortably positioned. All these are deficiencies which could be remedied and turn the rich collection's visit into a great experience.

Entry is very cheap - 2€ if I recall correctly - for access to an amazing set of relics collected from the major sites in Crete - Knossos, Phaestos, Driros etc.. Plus, you can take photographs in many of the galleries.
