“Possibly a highlight of any visit to Crete”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

Take a bus from the bus station in downtown Heraklion - it costs only a couple of euros and the bus service is quick and regular. You can eat across the road from the bus stop/car park at Knossos and the food is good. Lots of tacky souvenirs but don't be put off.
The site will take you around 3 hours to visit. I recommend you book a guide when you arrive. I think it costs 20 euros each but it's well worth the cost. The interpretation, the sense of amazement and awe that you get with the guided tour are simply essential. There's not a lot of shade on the tour so make sure you have a hat and water. The guides are professional and very entertaining as well as informative. You should not miss this site if you are in Crete for more than a day.

“Lovely day out”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

We when here as advised by our tour rep and hotel staff.
we hire a car and travelled from the east of the island.
The roads were typically Greece, a mixture of very slow cars and those which think that they are in a race.
the parking at Knossos is plentiful.
But despite this you have to get there really early to avoid the queues.
once you get there you will be asked if you want someone to goes round with you and explain the ruins. Bear in mind these guides will want as many people as they can get in one group, so you might have to wait for them to agreed that the group is large enough.
We didn't use a guide as most of the exhibits had perfectly good information boards set up next to them.
if you go on a hot day, it's is vey hot with no breeze.
There are some parts where you can use a push chair, but we ended up just leaving ours as most if it was inaccessible with it.
