An inexpensive trip from the port of Elouda to see some fascinating history. Worth a visit. Take comfy footwear to walk though.

I may be one of only a few people but if im honest i do not see this a a number 1 trip to do. Whilst its not expensive (boat and entrance is about 20 to 24 euro) once there there is limited things to see. It appeared when we attended that there wa slots of building work going on whick may have impacted on the visit but for me its was interesting but not earth shattering - in my opinion if you missed it then it wouldnt spoil your holiday.

I dont need to say more really. Incredibly interesting bits of history. It's not just an ex leper colony that got shut in the 50s. It is more than that. I'd like a guide or something to walk round with, booklet not person. It would also have been good to know there are set walking routes around the island! It made me google leprosy a lot and about the cure etc. Just go do it!

Good trip very interesting history. Starts with a small boat trip from plaka (recommendation) and after a small tour end with the beautiful tavern and lots of “raki”

The island reached by a short boat trip, inspired me to start to read the book associated with it (The Island). Our guide for the day, was very knowledgeable and brought home the suffering that the people confined here must have endured. Walking the walls around the island you could practically hear the souls of those that died here calling you, and for the few that survived a sense of relief. Families brought here suffering from the disease also had children here that were disease free but hidden away to avoid families being broken apart. A visit that I would not have normally taken, but I am so glad I did.
