“Lena, September 2012”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Stayed at the Lena for 2 weeks in September 2012. The Lena is across the road from the beach, close to the harbour area of Elounda, and there was always lots of hot water. We stayed in Room No 9 which is a large corner room on the 1st floor, with balconies on two sides. I was shown to the room on arrival by the owner. The mat outside the bathroom was soaking wet, and the floor of the bathroom was awash with water. The owner said it was because the cleaning hadn't been finished. Only 1 towel issued per visitor and the owner very begrudgingly gave me two handtowels when I insisted. Apart from the water from the shower coming up through the drain in the middle of the bathroom (quite normal in Greece), when we let water out of the handbasin it regularly flooded the bathroom floor and in the end we bought cleaning cloths and dried the bathroom floor two/three times each day. Towels changed twice a week, sheets once a week. When I asked for clean sheets after 5 days, the owner said I would have to pay for them. This could be a nice place to stay if the owner spent some money on the plumbing and wasn't so penny-pinching, but I wouldn't recommend it at present.

Room Tip: Some ground floor rooms are small and dark with very small balconies. Upper rooms seemed more spaci...

We are at a 2 week stay at Lena. We do not want to go home, as the family run complex is absolutely fantastic. I have no complaint what so ever for the apartments which are cleaned at least 3-4 times a week. The rep we have seen every day and all are interested in our well being. I have bought 4 disabled people here and we have been treated with the utmost dignity, respect and I have an admiration for all the family who are warm, friendly and very courteous at all times. We have made friends we all other tenants and all of us have been treated like royalty! Thank you John, Maria, George, Lena, little Bella and all who have made our holiday perfect. Xxxx

The lovely family are always helpful and welcoming and do what they can to ensure you enjoy your holiday.
Rooms basic but lovely and clean. The pool and bar area again clean, and welcoming .
Enjoyed lunches there most days overlooking the beach.
Location is perfect for both pool and beach lovers, and easy walking into the town square.

We returned last week from the Lena. Our experience is as follows. Arrived late with no Rep. Shown to our room by the owner. He shoved the key in the door and walked off. We traveled as three adults and had one of the smallest rooms there was, as even commented on by one Lena family member. In the two weeks we were there our room was cleaned three times even after we were told it was done three times a week! So you can imagine the state our our towels...One day we put them on the floor on room cleaning day to return later and the cleaner had picked them up folded them and put them back on our beds, filthy. Now to the toilet paper bin. Only emptied every three days!!! Not to be too crude, that is bad enough but with ladies sanitary wear it was totally disgusting. My husband had to take the paper bin on one occasion to the wheelie bins down the road as the smell in the heat was foul. The bed sheets were not changed at all in the two weeks so they started off white and were indescribable by the end of the holiday. Now to the pool and bar area. Unless you want to sit around the bar all day handing over money you are ignored by the owner. We hired a car for 3 days and went out and about, when we returned on these 3 days we were blanked as we had spent nothing at the bar. The pool is very small and the usual applies. Get up at the crack of dawn to get a sunbed or people NOT staying in the Lena who are returning visitors (and popular with owner) will have their towels on the beds before sun up. Plus you now have the added bonus of the owners 1year old daughter screaming from dawn till dusk!! Also other child relatives and their friends converge on the pool which as mentioned is small, making a racket and making it impossible to have a swim. By the way the pool is not particularly clean. We had a few swims with various insects, leaves, plasters and beer mats!! Overall Elounda beautiful and worth a visit. We were told the Manos apts next door were much nicer.....wish i had know.
A little message to two lovely people we met..... Is Richard still in the Olive Grove with a serviette on his head?

Room Tip: Not room 5 unless you like Ants.

We enjoyed a great family holiday in May at Lena apartments and the beautiful Elounda. We have been to Elounda many times, but this was our first time at Lena apts. The family are very welcoming and did their best to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The apartments, pool and bar area are all very clean. George has a lovely sense of humour, which he needed when we had our light night tipples at the bar. Thanks for your company George and give our best wishes to your Mum, Dad and Grandmother too. Give Bella a hug from the Yates family, especially Sammy!

Room Tip: Try for a room at the back if you are looking for a good rest. The view is best from the front, out...

We were looking for a quiet getaway, somewhere where I could do some diving and then have some good food in the evening. This place was ideal. Close enough to the habour village to walk in every night for some of the best seafood EVER ! Try the baracuda .. beautiful, also close enough to walk up into the hills to the villages overlooking Spinalonga. But far enough away that we were never troubled by any noise. The (small) beach in just across the road to the front of the appartments, a couple of euros for beds.
The owners were really friendly, but not intrusive and lots of people who don't even stay at this appartment come down to drink in their bar and have a bite of lunch.
The downsides .. the room we had was very basic and dark , we were only using it for a place to crash so no great worries but if you wanted a little luxury this isn't really the place. IF you could specify the upstairs rooms which look out to sea I am sure they are much nicer. Overall , ideal for what we wanted and to be fair it was exactly what we expected for a cheap and cheerful break. Got to say again though .. the seafood down in the habour was amazing .. treat yourselves.

Room Tip: First floor seaview
