“Would never have found this”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

If it hadn't been for Dawn and Rob! The whole evening we had was perfect and the food amazing (not to mention the wine)!

This restaurant is definitely on our list for future visits!

Please try it and let us all know what you think.

You will not be disappointed (as opposed to you will not be satisfied - DAWN!) I know that's what you meant :-)

“a gem of a find. thought it was somebodys house”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

well well well,
what can i say about the eleni restaurant apart from fantasitc.
Havent't noticed it before, i believed it was someones house, with a huge type patio area.
its located just after the manos apts on the way to plaka, past el greco supermarket and it's just after that on the same side.
Found it one evening after walking from the hope down past despina's and then walking towards the manos. we noticed a couple sat there, and realised it must of been a restaurant, and noticed the very very small menu on the roadside, so decided to call in for a caraf of wine, as we had already eaten.
we asked if it was okay to have just a drink, and they were more than happy with that, and also brought us some small plates out. It seems a family run place, and all the family were sat outside laughing and joking and the little boy playing on his bike, such a nice sight to see.
we decided to go for a meal on the saturday evening, and rob went on ahead whilst i got ready.
When i arrived Rob was sat in the place on his own, which is outside but with a wooded roof type to it, behind him were all the family, sat laughing and enjoying the evening. i must admit i did feel a bit aqward as we were they only paying customers in there, and i did at first start to wonder if it was a restaurant that had been sold and they had not taken the small menu display down outside. All that left my mind in the blink of an eye, when the lady who had served us our wine the night before came up and started speaking as if she had known me for ages and asked if we would be dining that night.
Phew one embarrasment avoided.
I had a mythos whilst looking through the menu. The menu was quite small, but had a good variety on it. Rob ordered whitebait, and i ordered prawns. the lady asked if i wanted the king prawns or small. I ordered king and to be honest afterwards wondered if i had done the right thing because at 12 euro i thought they would be frozen as the place didnt look busy enough to warrent fresh.
we asked if it would be okay to order mains after the starter (as sometimes the mains come out really quick)
so sorry if this review is going on a bit, but i would just like to share my most amazing experience with you all, as this is only the 2nd review and you people do not know what you are missing, so stick with it.
our wine came, and we were watching the little boy playin, he was only about 4 yrs old and kept going to the edge of the restaurant. (he couldnt get out) as if he was looking for someone. it was now dark, and we watched a little boat come to shore and the little lad was jumping up and down shouting pappa pappa, bless him he was waiting for his dad to come back from fishing, he was so excited when he came across the road with his fishing rod and cool box, and he couldnt wait for his cuddle.
during this time the family behind us had lit a bbq round the back, and pushed alot of tables together, an english woman was with them and so they were all mainly speaking english. it seemed like some family do was going down.
anyway back to the meal.
our starter arrived within about 15 to 20 mins, and i was SHOCKED the biggest whitebait i have ever seen in my life, so big they had even cut the heads off, no way were they shop bought and frozen and absalutly delish. the king prawns, well they were massive, and again didnt taste or look frozen to me, and cooked in garlic, fully shelled and fantastic i was now glad i had chose them. I couldn't and still can't believe the size of the whitebait the taste was amazing. my only qualm was the lack of a finger bowl, but we had serviettes so that was not a major problem. after the starter the lady asked us if we had enjoyed, and we said how lovely the starter had been, we then ordered lamb steak and i asked for the braised lamb, unfortunatly she did not have that, so i had pork loin.
whilst waiting and drinking our wine, alot of what seemed like the family started to arrive, and more tables were pushed together, then an oldish man wandered over to us with 2 small plates of pork, and explained that this had been cooked on his bbq for a family gathering for his niece. a lovely gesture and very very nice pork. the family were eating and drinking, laughing and joking as you do, and our meal came out.
the meat was perfectly cooked, and served with homemade chips and salad, and my pork had a mushroom sauce with it. the meal wasn't a huge portion (which i was so glad of) but the quality was superb, by this time we were on our 2nd caraf of wine, which was lovely and was told it was homemade by the man who had given us the bbq pork.
we were stuffed by this time, and sat and chilled out.
there was now about 12 of the family sat behind us, and i felt that maybe we should leave as it was clearly some sort of family occasion, but they had different ideas,
now that we had finished our meal, we were brought into the conversation, which i thought was lovely, and had it explained that the niece had just got into university to study law in Athens and that she was leaving on the monday.
the next thing we saw was what i can only described as a huge profiterole mountain being brought out to their table, and a bottle of dom perignon (not sure if spelt right) champagne. and behind, the lady who had served us had plates for rob and i, and was asked to please celebrate with them, and then a glass each of the champagne was brought to our table to wish the girl good health.
A lovely gesture for an end to a lovely evening.
the profiteroles were to die for, and champagne ok, but i am not a lover, but just thought how nice to be included in such a special occasion.
The bill was just under 50 euro for 4 bottles of mythos 2 litre of wine, starters and mains, and a really good 3 hours watching the world go by. (even tho it was dark)
I asked if we could order the braised lamb for the monday, which she said no problem.
I wont bore you with monday nights meals, except to say 4 of us went this time (chutneyrama from ta and her husband mark) myself and rob. All had starters, the boys had whitebait, i had small prawns (lovely) and chutney had the chick pea thing. we all thoroughly enjoyed, and mark was very complimentry about the whitebait. rob and i had the braised lamb (lovely) chutney had chicken, and i cant remember what mark had. we all enjoyed and the family (altho fewer) made us feel very welcome. we were given the homemade raki from the man who makes the wine.
All in all, very good evening had by all.
Please if you see this place, feel free to call in, maybe it was quiet because it was late sept, i don't know, but on all our visits we were made to feel very welcome, not hassled, but not ignored either. You walked into what i would call someones front room to go to the loo, which was spotless and walking back through you could see a huge kitchen which looked spotless.
give it a go you will not be satisfied. we will deffo be back.
thank you so very much for your hospitality

“lovely!!!”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

Is a lovely restaurant run by Greek family, where food is fresh and lovely. It's a Greek cussine(with my favourite olives) + there are international akcents in manu and what was important for me is that younger generation can find hamburger and chips ;) so everybody keeps happy!
This restaurand is on a main road on the way to Plaka ( just after main beach on left side). It have the most magnificient view on Eloundas harbour!!! Lovely boats infront of us, wooden roof above outside part with plants round and some lamps make it realy romantic and friendly.
Servis is always with smile and prices dont ruin budget. We were back there for this family care and happy evenings. Thank you!
