I must point out right away that I do not get along with boats generally! However, this was an excellent trip incorporating an excellent guide who was extremely knowledgable on the history of the island in all its incarnations (Vnetians, Turks, Lepers, etc).
An extremely poingnant trip to a really important landmark in Cretan history. The boat trip was fine and the lunch provided in the BBQ was excellent. I would recommend this trip.

i liked the boat ride out and thought the value was okay i went on the boat ostria it was very nice i especially liked the part in which the boat stopped half way there and if you wanted you could get out and go for a swim. the food on the boat was pretty good and the island its self was very nice. all in all i'd do it again. i got the boat from agios nikolaos so it was quite a ride but still good for a boat.

Fascinating, must see, but hot. Take supplies. Best visited from Plaka, a short boat ride away. Small and characterful boats plus a quick ride back for good food and drink at Plaka's excellent tavernas.

Although visiting the Island of Spinalonga was interesting, unfortunately at the end of July the crowds that arrive to this island are ridiculous and the waiting around for boats to leave, lunch, coaches etc was simply too long! Unfortunately coaches and boats arrive on the island and the lunch stop at the same times and so you spend a lot of time waiting around. If the boats were smaller or times were staggered this would make for a much more enjoyable trip. If you are travelling with children then perhaps not the best trip during peak season!

We had a hire car for a couple days so drove to Elounda from our hotel at Kokkini Chani. We bought our tickets at the harbour (€10 each) and sailed across to the island. Upon arrival we were told to be back at the harbour in 1 hour which suited us fine. We then set off for a walk around the island - various buildings from it's time as a leper colony and before. There are a number of "art" installations around the island some of which can only be described as weird - you can probably tell I'm not an artist! Back at the harbour was a little chaotic with everyone trying to find their boat back - no queuing here. One couple who came out on our boat were seen heading away on a boat to Plakes - hope they managed to find their way back to Elounda. This made for an interesting day out but do take plenty to drink, and check which boat you're getting on!
