When we first arrived in crete it was late night, We finally reached the road that lead up to elunda residence at midnight, the bus driver dropped us off and we had to wait for the staff to come collect us. I thought ohhh great holiday this is going to be. When we reached the elunda residence the staff were so nice they helped us to our room with the bags and opened the mini market so we could get some water and bits . The first proper day we were their it was beautiful all the flowers starting to bloom and the sites were amazing especially as we were very high in the mountains. The hotel was very clean and tidy , the only thing that made me cringe was the bugs and their are lots of these. we decided to take the children and go for a walk to look around the road that lead from elunda residence are very steep going to the town , so would not be advisable to try using a wheel chair or if your not very good at walking might be a good idea to rent a car. We rented a car for 5 days and a night for 170 euros , which is very good and the staff at elunda residence will be happy to arrange this for you as they did for us. I think the longer you have the car the greater the discount so dont always go by the price on the leaflets as our car would have been 400 plus euros. It is very expensive to eat for a family as their are 5 of us depending on what part of elunda you eat . We used some where called the garden of eden cafe /pub its very nice their is a play area for the children and pool for the adults. We spent around 35 euros here for a meal for us all and our drink. While we were their it was easter all the roads were blocked of and the churches congragated it was very beautiful then lots of fire works. We went to a greak night a the elunda residence where we were staying it was 20 euros per person. They did not charge me for the 2 younger children. It was a great night which started of with greek salad andbread with live music then went on to a stone bbq with chicken ,beef , lamb and sheeps belly . The sites are truly amazing and just behind our appartment was a small park they also have a play room gym basketball courts and crazy golf. Around the pool they have pool tables and things for children to do. Their is a mini market and a massage spa thing too. The pool was beautiful although it is cold when you first get in , the pool is water from the sea and has a slide for peoples pleasure and if you just want to relax their are sun beds. We ate quite a lot at elunda residence as we went self catering we had to try and find the cheapest places . The food we ate at was pizza chips bolognase burger salad , and the dearest bill we had was 28 euros. The utilities in the room are 2 electic hobs a kettle and a breval, we cooked in the room some times and all the utensils were clean and tidy.Every day the rooms are cleaned and the cleaners are very nice too. The staff are just so nice maria the manageress is lovely and if you have any problems she will be their to sort them out. Every week they do some thing different to entertain. It truly was and amazing holiday and the staff did all they could to make us feel welcome. When we first arrived as we were self catering they gave us 3 pieces of paper for our children which entitled the to 4 drinks 2 ice creams and 1 meal per day these were just marked of as the children received them. I was really happy that they did this as it did save us a lot of money. I would go back to this hotel again and would like to advise people who want a great holiday this is the place not to busy just right .But please remember if you do hire a car be careful !!!

From the moment we arrived we were greeted with friendliness. The Hotel has a marvellous team of staff and absolutely nothing is too much trouble. The apartments are well looked after and spotlessly clean. The food was excellent greek cuisine with lots of variety at every meal. I have been to 5* hotels that fall short of Elounda Residence. Best holiday we have ever had in Crete and will be returning. Many, many thanks to all involved.

The hotel had the most amazing views out to the bay and Spinalonga. Some of the friendliest and helpful staff I have ever encountered. Nothing was too much trouble. Food authentic Greek in the main and beautifully prepared, cooked and served. The room was clean and well equipped for our needs. Cannot recommend the Elounda residence highly enough.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems ask for one of the lower appartments

We hired a car for our duration so the steep hills weren't really a problem although we did tackle them a couple of times when we both wanted to have a drink and meal at night in the many excellent tavernas in Elounda and they are steep! We loved this place as it was perfect for what we wanted which was a base in Crete from which we could explore the surrounding country and mountains. Crete is a beautiful Island and this was an ideal base from which to explore with the added bonus of having a beautiful view from our balcony and from the pool. We found the staff to be amazingly friendly and helpful - although to be fair we found this from all the people we spoke to in Crete. They are so nice and hospitable. The Elounda residence itself, as a self catering apartment is spacious and clean but as other reviewers have mentioned, the self catering facilities themselves are very limited and basic. This didn't bother us as we never intended to cater for ourselves ( we ate out all the time) but it might if this is what you are considering. Can't comment on the all inclusive element as this is an option we would never do but we did eat at the Taverna a couple of times and found the food to be excellent.

we've stayed at the Elounda residence twice now & for a basic holiday the place is perfect.

Downsides.....
The hill. You need to be pretty fit to walk up & down to the apartments, not to mention the town. Any problems with your hips & you'll struggle.
The dinners. The 1st time we stayed (we were self catering), we were offered a discount on an evening meal. What we didn't realise was that it was a buffet style & you had to be down sharpish to get what was on offer. By the time we got down at a relaxing time, the scraps were left & not a patch on what you'd expect in Greece.
The tennis court - we're keen tennis players, but the courts looked as if they hadn't been touched in years & were just next to the sewer outlet. You didn't want to hang about with your serves.
On the plus sides - and there are quite a few - the place is very clean, views are incredible, pool clean & mostly quiet, table tennis table, small restaurant, nice bar serving cocktails.
The major plus side though has to be the town of Elounda. Just right for those wanting a bit of peace & quiet. Some great bars, & even better small restaurants that are to die for. Try going to the right of the main stip, some of the places offer great value for money.
Thining of going back to Elounda, but may try somewhere else, just for a change.
