We were sceptical after reading reviews about this hotel but absolutely loved it, it was clean and the staff were very friendly. Yes the hill up is steep but not long so very easy to walk up! Being located on the hill gives fantastic views of the sea and the island!

We walked to the town most days and enjoyed the laid back bars and day beds that were in most bars, sipping our cocktails. The sea was so warm so great to have a dip before heading back to the hotel. There is an amazing beach bar full of beautiful people, if you trun left out the entrance of the hotel, it has day beds and sofas at the end of little piers and plays very funky music, you also have a choice of watersports and as a fan of wakeboarding had a little play!

The food in the bar restaurant was enjoyable, however most evenings we ate out for a more traditional meal.

We were away for a week, spent time by the pool, explored the local area and went on a few excursions, we highly recommend the "Land Rover, Great Adventure Safari" we were collected from the hotel and meet some lovely people and the tour guide Gary, was very knowledgeable. The boat trip to Spilonga (not sure on spelling) and BBQ, was great to see the island however the BBQ further round the bay although nice we stayed on the boat as it was packed with people, this was fine as we jumped off the boat and the water was clear blue and the food was delicious!!

We ventured over to Agios Nikolaos or Ag Nik to see what all the fuss was about, it was much busier, a bit more agressive at getting us into their bar but we enjoyed time around the Lake area and dined at a great restaurant GOLD, we do prefer Elounda though!

Overall a great holiday and returned home very relaxed!!!

2 adult couples spent a week at Blue Bay, room 108 and 215. 108 had a slightly larger balcony than 215 but both had fantastic views of the bay and Spinalonga. Without doubt the best views we have ever had from a balcony. Pool was fabulous and again the views from here and the restauarant were amazing.
OK the rooms were a little tired and not 4* but were spotlessly clean and the rest of the holiday more than makes up for it. We had no complaints about the food which changed every evening and we were there at the end of the season! Nikos at the bar and Malonis in the restaurant were really nice and friendly.
We walked to Plaka but it is a little treacherous right next to the road so would recommend the bus, c6 Euros for 4 people, Plaka is a beautiful beach albeit large stones so you would be advised to take some 'sea shoes'. We bought some from Plaka for 7 Euros. Water is so clear i would recommend getting a snorkel and mask too. Beds are 3 euros for the day. Water activities and boats to Spinalonga are located here. Fantastic little restaurants and bars right next to the sea. c40 euros for lunch for 4, definite Shirley Valentine moment.
Walk to Elounda is recommended, c 20 mins on a flat walkway. We went for lunch at the first fish restaurant on a small strip of them. Waiter outside had shoulder length dyed blond hair and entices you in. Would not recommend as the fish was overcooked and cost us c80 euros for 4.
Buses stop on the road at the base of the hotel and are recommended for Elounda, Plaka and Ag Nick. They are comfortable (better than ours!_ and a cheap way to travel. Every hour or 2 depending on weekday or weekends but are more or less on time.
Hotel beach is lovely albeit the facilities were closed - however it was end of season and we were not bothered!
We were very lucky with the weather which was a mixture of hot, sunny, some cloud and a bit of rain one evening. We were even to see a spectacular lightning display out to sea which lasted c4 hours and was amazing.
All in all I would recommend this hotel for the location, views, food and staff. Higher rooms may be difficult to walk to but to be fair this is obvious from the reviews. Our rooms were up an incline but certainly not too difficult to get to and i had recently had knee surgery!
Have no hesitation in recommending.

Recently returned, second visit. Staff are helpfull, friendly and very obliging. Make sure you ask for lower rooms,as the incline is very steep! Fantastic views to Spinalonga, meals taken on the terrace are recommended. Room a little tired but clean.Beach and swimming pool area have everything you need, snacks, beds, drinks etc. Entertainment 2/3 nights a week, which we didn`t have last year. Relaxed atmosphere, quiet, the ideal place for a holiday to remember.

I was a little wary when we arrived at the blue bay as some of the reviews were very uncomplimentary. However I can honestly say that we have had one of the nicest weeks ever! Admittedly the climb to the hotel and to our room was quite steep but when we saw the view from our balcony it was well worth it. We looked out over the whole bay and it was stunning. Our room was basic but very comfortable and towels were changed daily.
The staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful -particularly the lady at reception who had worked since the start of the season with no day off. The dining room staff were also very polite and accomodating and nothing was too much trouble.
The food was very varied and delicious. My husband is a chef and can be very critical but he enjoyed it all!
The swimming pool area was cleaned regularly and was a pleasure to swim in. There was also the alternative of a small beach at the bottom of the hotel.
The walk into Elounda was lovely along the bayside and it only took about 12-14 mins. Taxis were available for a small charge if you wanted to return late in the evening.

We have just returned from our 3rd trip to the Blue Bay and enjoyed every minute. This is a friendly hotel with staff who care about the guests enjoying their stay and helping in any way they can. Nothing is too much trouble if asked. Food is very good, breakfasts are varied from greek to english fare and the meals at night are also fine with lovely sweets. The drinks are expensive but this would be expected in any hotel all over the world. What sets the Blue Bay apart is that there is a shop on site which sells soft drinks and other items at a very reasonable price, very unusual given the captive market. Most of the comments have been made about the type of hotel ( not a 4 star as the British would understand it) and that it could benefit from an upgrade. There has also been mention of the hill which cannot be underestimated. However, for relaxation, fantastic position between Elounda and Plaka and value for money this is a great place to start. We would recommend it.

We have just returned from our stay at the Blue Bay, and we are writing this review as honest as we can. We will definatly stay there again, like any hotel it has its good and bad points as we will mention. Its more a 3 star than a 4 star but the higher end of a 3 star. ROOMS- ok, very basic, but as we see it the room is only a base to wash up and sleep, but lovely view from the balcony (not in lower rooms, we were on the 3rd level). The higher room you have there is more of a climb, and to be honest the climb is very steep, not really good for the elderly or infirm. Also the climb to the hotel is very very steep. We stayed half board and the choice for breakfast and evening meal was very varied and we both felt is was very good. The pool area is very nice, the beach was very nice but the snack bar at the beach was expensive, £5.70 for 2 cans of drinks, buy them at the hotel shop, 80p a can from there, 50p a bottle of water. Take your own beach towels as the hotel frowns on the use of theirs. Staff are some of the best we have encountered on our travels, very helpfull. The town of Elounda is about a 25 minute walk on a very pleasant and well looked after pavement, along the edge of the bay, its £5 in a taxi, Elounda is a nice small resort, everything you need, some really nice places to eat, we recommened Arions, great food. Recommend a hire of a vehicle, we hired a scooter for 3 days, well worth it, saw some stunning scenery and the real Crete, we use to get a picnic at local supermarkets and eat on our travels, a 1/4 of the price of eating lunch out, and far more enjoyable. The hotel is worth a visit in our view, very middle of the road and overall we would give it 8 - 10.

I was searching for about one week a 4-star hotel for my vacations. I just wanted a good hotel near the sea and a room convenient for me and my family(husband and 2 children) What we have been offered was a double room with a bathroom which has not been renovated for about 20 years or more. The room service wanted to clean the room during the afternoon, by the time we wanted to have some rest. The hotel is not convenient for dissabled persons or families with kids as you really have to climb to reach your room. I am a Greek and it is really a shame for us to have such hotels.
