SENTIDO Elounda Blu
Ranked #6 of 35 Hotels in Elounda
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 9, 2012

The Elounda Blu is in an idyllic setting and benefits from incredible views of the sea, mountains and Spinalonga Island. There is a steep walk (3-4mins) up to the higher level rooms (rooms in 300-500s) but if you are happy to walk then views are great. You can take a lift to the level where 200s are.

I found all the staff very welcoming, friendly and helpful - from the receptionists, to the cleaners and waiters - and we received excellent service.

It looks like the hotel may have been recently renovated so older reviews may not apply. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. The bathroom we had was pretty small, but fixtures seemed relatively new and we had a fantastic power shower. The room's lighting was a little poor/dull so you may want a reading light if eyesight not so good.

The pool area is fantastic as you can sit and look out over the sea. Along with the usual sun loungers are a few nice sofa-type comfortable seats, and tables & chairs. There is a poolside bar, which also serves snacks. Inside there is a bar and a lovely area with sofas, rocking chairs and tables - everything looked brand new. There is a pool table but not much else activity wise.

There is a spa which just opened this year. Warm indoor pool and jacuzzi, and sauna. Spa treatments including massage, manicures etc. Quite pricey though. Really lovely staff in the spa. As the spa is new and we were there in the first week of the season, it's unlear whether use of the pool etc will be free for all guests in future - it was when we were there but worth checking.

The private beach is small, and it's a pebble beach but it's very nice and clean. The water is crystal clear!

Food was fantastic - lots of choice and good quality. Breakfast has brilliant choice - cereal, bread cheese & meat, cooked items - bacon egg sausage beans etc, toast, yoghurt, fruit.
Lunch and dinner comprises of large salad bar (gorgeous salads!) and then a choice of hot food - 3 or 4 mains (one fish, a couple of meats and something vegitarian) with choices of veg and sides. Then there are a few desserts on offer and a cheese board.

The dining room is great as lots of windows to again see the view, and there is also an outdoor area.

I highly recommend the Elounda Blu to friends, couples or those on their own.

Room Tip: It's definitely worth requesting/paying for a sea view room as the hotel is in a perfect locatio...

My favorite thing about this place is the view of Spinalonga island. I like that the hotel is sort of set in an alcove and when you're on the beach huge hills are surrounding you, with Spinalonga island as the centerpiece. Some people may not like the stony beach, but I thought it was pretty, and it's not hard to walk across because there are little "sidewalks" made of wooden planks. I thought the beach setup was nice. The bathroom sticks out in my mind; there was a little window next to the mirror (that had a shutter) through which you could see the room (and the sea view). I thought it was a nice touch. And the bed was gigantic and comfortable. I think because we went in the low season (October) it was relatively quiet (the hotel was not completely booked), which we liked, and I'd say it was reasonably good value for money. All in all, we were able to completely relax and enjoy the peaceful setting.

(+)This is a hotel i choose to go with my family often in the summer.
The hotel has great gardens and is great place for swimming in the sea.
The people of this hotel are very happy and polite.
Nice place for single hand sailing.
Great place for kids
(-) the food in the buffer restaurant is definitely not a good one. However the hotel has a nice restaurant by the sea as well as many others that are on the sister hotel Elounda beach which is 5 min walk.
The price is very high given that the room I stayed is unchanged for at least 15 years!

Loved the food, great choice and everything we ate was perfectly cooked. Lovely view from our balcony but be warned that the climb to the hotel reception and then to the rooms are very steep, we were really puffing and we were only on the 300's definitely wouldn't have made it any higher. You can take the lift to 2nd floor which we did but still had a steep incline to room after. Rooms were ok nice size but have heard they are updating the rooms this winter, we used a room on 200's on last night to have a shower and had a really lovely power shower in that room.
We really cant praise the food enough, it really was lovely and the waiters were really nice and friendly.

Room Tip: Choose on the 200's level unless you are very fit !! all rooms faced the sea.

My girlfriend and I holidayed here in mid July for two sun soaked weeks. The hotel is set in a beautiful location, clean and very well maintained with stunning views over the bay, especially from the pool area and dinning terrace. The food was exceptional with a wide selection to suit all tastes at both breakfast and dinner! The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating; from enquiries to booking tickets, they were very helpful right up to our airport connection when leaving. A special thanks to the duty manager and to the world’s friendliest barman Nektarios! who kept us glued to the bar on many a evening! Make sure you visit the bar; the drinks are good and he’s well worth you tips! To get to the nearest town Elounda was a 20-minute walk, which in the heat of the day few may find a little long, but the views across the bay are stunning and you soon forget that you just showered for nothing :)There’s plenty of place nearby to visit, a happy train into the mountains, and numerous excursions to go on around crete. Make sure you get out on the bay in one of the kayaks, well worth a go! If you want an amazing holiday and exceptional value for money then book the Elounda Blue Bay!!!

The only disadvantage in this hotel is it's being kind of steep to reach, yet it's being on the slope is also it's big advantage!
The rooms are simple and clean, and the view to the bay is breathtaking!!!
The pool is nice, so are the little pools attached to some types of the rooms. The people running the place are very friendly, and the food- the best I had in Greece!! Someone really made an effort to please the guests!
Families with little kids will enjoy a small playground, which is very convenient.

I would surely recommend this hotel to others, keeping in mind that elderly people might find the climbing within the hotel area a bit rough.

Room Tip: When without little children ask for a room with an attached pool

Just returned from a week on holiday at this hotel and found it perfect-the views, the food the staff-exceptional value for money ! We read all the reports beforehand and managed to secure a low level room to avoid the steep hill-tennis courts are at the very top if your interested.Nice mini market for needy purchases but 20min walk into Elounda otherwise or short bus ride if you prefer. Allan and Sally, North Yorkshire

Room Tip: level 1 and 2 are best to avoid the steep hill
