Rooms and services were excellent, especially restaurant. Staff there is amazing. We really liked restaurant managers (Manilos) enthusiasm and ability to help.

We have recently come back form Elounda Blue Bay hotel and have to say it was amazing. The sea view from our balcolny was superb - breath taking! The standard and selection of food available was perfect and staff will go that extra mile to ensure your stay with them is perfect. Have to make a special mention of the bar man who starts at 5:30. He is super friendly with customer service and the front of his mind! Also he makes a wicked cocktail:) When we visit Elounda again we will definietly book here.

Room Tip: Balcolny with sea view (room 122)

My husband and I had a great holiday at the Blue Bay, the staff were brilliant particularly the assistant manager Yannis who was really friendly and always went out of his way to spend some time with us. The restaurant manager Manolis was also very friendly and really knew his job and he ensured that the restaurant ran smoothly. The food in the restaurant was very good with plenty of choice and the views from the terrace were fantastic.

The bedrooms are a bit basic but they are cleaned every day and the sheets and towels are changed every second day, so we couldn't complain. It is definitely worth while paying a bit extra for a sea view as the view from the balcony is terrific overlooking Spinalonga.

It is a 20 minute stroll to Elounda walking along the sea front, although the hill up to the hotel is very steep if you are reasonably fit it is not too much of a problem.

We will certainly be back.

Room Tip: Up grade to a sea view

My husband and I spent our 6th anniversary at the Elounda Blue Bay and overall had a very good experience. The positives for the property are many. We found the staff to be absolutely 5 star in terms of their interaction with us. Maria at reception personified service with a smile and managed to deal with every request efficiently. Nektarios at the bar was friendly and he served wicked mojitos and Bahama mamas. Kostas and Manolis at the restaurant were first class servers. Yiannis, the assistant manager, made sure that everything was running smoothly throughout the hotel. Most of the staff are Cretan which no doubt influences the high level of hospitality that we were offered. (Advice to future guests...if you behave as would as a visitor at friend's house, then you'll experience authentic Greek hospitality!)
Aside from the staff, the restaurant offered a good breakfast and dinner buffet. There were plenty of choices to satisfy everyone (including a vegetarian) and also a sampling of Greek cuisine. Do beware that any drinks (including water) that you have with dinner, you will be charged for.
The views from the hotel property were spectacular. But, as other reviewers have mentioned, the property is on a steep hill that requires you to be able to physically climb stairs and inclines. It's a part of the property's beauty-enjoy the stroll! Plus, this daily climb substitutes for the sub-par gym that the property advertises. The hotel is ideally located half way between Plaka and Elounda (1.5 kms to either). The path to Elounda has a nice sidewalk along the sea and is safe to use even after dark. As for the room, we were upgraded to a room with a shared pool, which was very nice. The room was dated but the air conditioning, tV and refrigerator all worked well. The bathroom needed redoing. We understand that all the rooms are being slowly renovated one by one. The cleaning staff was doing an excellent job every day.
All in all, it was a good experience and we would highly recommend the hotel as good value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms 400 and above are at the top of the steep hill.

We have just returned from a fortnight in Crete, mostly spent at the Elounda Blue Bay. We’re not strangers to Elounda, so know that for our budget, which I’d say is middle of the road, we could never expect to get a top-notch hotel in this beautiful corner of the world; the likes of the Domes, and the Blue Palace are way out of our reach. Given that, I’d say that pound for pound, or euro for euro, the Blue Bay is about as good as you’re going to get without having to remortgage your house and prostitute your dog to finance a two-week holiday.

We arrived quite late at night, and were welcomed with what the receptionist described as a ‘small dinner’: a plate of cold cuts and salads. We were tired, so didn’t feel like eating much, but it was very welcome, as was the bottle of water waiting for us in the fridge in the room (though it took us a while to figure out how to turn the fridge on; a testament to our technical incompetence, and no reflection on the hotel).

We were happy with our room; it was fairly basic, as is the norm for Greece, but everything was clean and tidy, and the maids came every day to give it a once over. The beds were firm, which wasn’t ideal for me, but I’d expected that, as that’s standard for Greece too. We both like more than one pillow, so asked for another each and big fat fluffy ones arrived with the maid. We’d expected to have to pay extra for air conditioning, as we’ve had to on just about every other holiday we’ve been on in recent years, so it was a nice surprise when we realised it was free. The air con did seem to be a bit temperamental though, but we think that could be because, yet again, we didn’t figure out how to work it properly until right at the end of our stay.

Our room was very nearly the last in the complex (505), so almost all the way up the hill. The view was beautiful, looking across to the peninsula and Spinalonga, and at first the walk back up was fine, but it did get more challenging as time went on, and we ate more and more food. We knew what we were letting ourselves in for when we booked though, so can’t complain about that.

The quality and variety of the food was very good, with a more extensive selection than I’d expected. The breakfast buffet included yogurt, fresh, canned and dried fruits, honey, jams and spreads, a variety of cereals and breads, small warm pastries, cold meats and cheeses, and cooked items including sausages, bacon, eggs and beans, so I’d be surprised if guests couldn’t find something they’d like. The waiting staff brought round tea and decent quality coffee, and a shout-out goes to Kostas, who always kept our cups topped up.

Similarly, the dinner buffet was always varied, with a good selection of salads, breads, a soup, pasta, and a number of hot dishes. There were always some Greek options, which is what we wanted, but some of the choices also catered for a more general international audience too. We tried a lot of the dishes, and I don’t think we found anything that was bad or poorly cooked.

The standard of the hotel overall was very good; all shared areas were kept clean and tidy, and the pool area was very nice, and I thought the pool itself was in good condition. The main issue there was that there weren’t enough loungers, so we had to take our towels down at breakfast to bagsy a spot, which I’d prefer not to have to do.

The food at the snack bar by the pool was good, though we only ate there once, and the hotel gave us a 10 per cent off voucher for that, which we promptly lost, but drinks were a bit pricey. We were more shocked at the price of ice creams though – two magnum-style ice creams cost the best part of 7 euros, so we tended to wait until we were elsewhere if we wanted to treat ourselves. We did take advantage of the free wifi in reception and around the pool area a few times, which was useful.

The other main downside, which isn’t unique to this hotel and again is quite common in larger complexes in Greece, is that there was quite often a strong smell of drains around the grounds, as the drains were pumped. It did mean that a few times we had to close the balcony doors and bathroom window to keep it out. It didn’t spoil the holiday, but it did make us comment positively on the occasional days which weren’t whiffy.

The best thing about this hotel though was the quality of the service. The restaurant was a tight-run operation, with efficient but friendly service, and the service at reception was exceptional and we found Maria to be particularly helpful. We had no major complaints or problems, but even small queries or needs were sorted quickly and happily. One day we’d booked a trip to the water park (with a travel agent, not through the hotel), but the coach didn’t come to pick us up (which wasn’t the fault of the travel agent or the hotel – it was all down to the water park’s transfer service). Even though the hotel had no responsibility to do so, Maria did everything she could to help us sort it out, so it didn’t spoil our day.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. Be aware of the very few minor downsides when you book, so your expectations are realistic, and you won’t be disappointed. The plusses far outweigh the minuses, and as I mentioned, for a mid-priced hotel in Elounda, this is about as good value as you’re going to get.

Positives - Great views and friendly staff. Good variety of food every night and we stayed 2 weeks. Manalos the head waiter made sure he added the personal touch for guests which makes a difference. The pool area was clean as were all the public areas. When booking the hotel and reading reviews it does say not suitable for people with walking difficulties due to the hill the hotel is built on...they weren't kidding! I am able bodied and not overweight but I struggled in the heat but it did not do anything to spoil the holiday. Air conditioning is free. The beach owned by the hotel is kept really clean and serviced all day by a really friendly lady who will do whatever she can to make your day enjoyable. You will have to pay for sunloungers and umbrellas at 2 euros for a lounger and 2 euros for an umbrella for the day. We used the beach more than the pool as the sunloungers were always full. It was a nice touch when we arrived late at night to be shown to the dining room and offered salad, cold meats and bread rolls.
Not so positive - Room disappointing. Concrete walls and really small balcony and most of that was taken up with a very noisy airconditioning unit. If I stayed here again I would want to stay in one of the more modern rooms. Our bathroom was not very clean and we thought we should probably have brought some bleach from somewhere and given it a good clean. The toilet always looked dirty but I think it was due to age. We did have a problem with the bathroom flooding a couple of times but this was soon sorted. Our view from the balcony was not bad and looked out over Spinalonga but photo's were marred by air conditioning units on the roof of building in front of us.
Don't get excited by the gym. It is small, smells and only the treadmill worked. If you want a sauna or use the steam room it will cost you ( I think I was told 12 euros for 2 people for an hour). My friend came out of the swimming pool with blue paint on her bikini from where the paint could not have been completely dry. I think the pool could do with a bit of an overhaul if I am honest but it is certainly far better than some I have seen.
