“Holiday at Elounda Bay Palace”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

We spent a week at the Elounda Bay Palace in Crete from the 7th July. We had an amazing holiday, the hotel was absolutely beautiful, the setting by the sea was amazing. We were upgraded to a beautiful villa with shared pool and incredible sea views. The levels of cleanliness were exceptional, the food was fantastic, great selection, really fresh and tasty. The views from the restaurant were also amazing. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us. The gardens were also beautiful maintained . We will definitely return, an unforgettable holiday. Many thanks to all the staff at Elounda Bay Palace

Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review of your stay with us at the Elounda Bay Palace. The staff and management of the hotel work hard to provide the holiday experience that you found during your stay. The unique location of the hotel set within its mature Mediterranean gardens overlooking the bay of Mirabello is just made for relaxation and has a timeless air of the majestic mountains that makeup the back bone of the island. It is the aim of our loyal staff to welcome our guests with their own special brand of Cretan Hospitality which has our guests returning again and again. We look forward to welcoming you again to the Elounda Bay Palace in the near future.

Our second visit to Elounda Bay Palace in a year. In this hotel, room dust bins are emptied three times a day. Staff is extremely pleasant, the restaurants are far above most other hotels I have visited, and they have the most lovely, clean beach you will ever see. Built into the hotel area.

Our first visit (autumn 2012) was two families with kids from 8 to 14 years old. Second visit (summer 2013), just my wife and me. Works very well both for families and couples.

The landscape around the hotel is beautiful. Spinalonga island ("The Island") nearby, lots of nice, Cretan restaurants within walking distance (I recommend Oloundi), and secluded beaches in walking distance as well if you have no problem walking for 45 minutes (Continue further south after the crowded Kolokytha beach to reach the Vagi area. If, and I say "if", you see anyone there, they are probably free of textiles.).

We will certainly be back, if income permits.

Room Tip: You will probably ask for a room with sea view.

Thank you for sharing your holiday memories of the Elounda Bay Palace on the Trip Advisor website. It is our pleasure to see guests return to us again and again. As you have discovered our hotel lends itself to either family holidays or quiet couples holidays with its variety of accommodation, facilities, warm and friendly attentive service. The unique position of the Elounda Bay Palace, just on the outskirts of the village of Elounda, makes it ideal for a 10 minute stroll into the village harbour to enjoy the local colourful Cretan life, whilst being pampered by the luxurious surroundings of the Elounda Bay Palace. We are looking forward to welcoming you and the family again for a future stay here with us.

From the moment the staff met us on the drive we knew that this would be a special place. They are amazing, nothing is too much trouble and everyone is so friendly and helpful. I have never known customer service like it and it really makes Elounda Bay Palace stand out amongst the hotels to which we have been.
We had one of the cheaper rooms, Smart Club, facing the mountain, but it was large with a small marble bathroom and a balcony. It wasn’t “blingy” (if you want that, upgrade to a more expensive room) but was very clean and comfortable and how much time do you spend in your room? Not much – there’s so much to see and do here!
The two beaches are beautifully maintained with staff on hand for towels, drinks etc – same of the two pools. Having private beaches was a real plus as the beaches in the village are nothing special.
We had full board so had breakfast and dinner in the Aretoussa restaurant with lunch in the beachside taverna, Ariadne. The food is great, fresh and beautifully presented and again the staff are fantastic. You could take credit against one of the other restaurants but we didn’t feel the need. It has been remarked on here that the drinks are expensive but with bottles of wine starting at 22 euros, half a bottle at 12 euros, plus cocktails at 9 - 10 euros we didn’t think it was expensive, especially when you consider this is a five star hotel.
The gardens were a real highlight for us – lushly planted and beautifully lit at night, with lights also in the sea. Wherever you looked it was a delight and we often walked around the grounds after dinner.
We didn’t hire a car as it is only 10 min walk to Elounda, although not much is going on there, except the boats to Spinalonga island. Walk over the causeway and peninsula (45 min from the hotel) for the most perfect beach (Kolokythia?) but not in the day as tourist boats stop there. Go in the morning or evening - it was bliss with the clearest pale blue water.
We took the bus to Agios Nikolaos, Kritsa (overrated) and Heraklion for Knossos. Buses are very regular and very cheap – 7 euros to Heraklion, 60 miles! We could have gone on the excursions as there was plenty on offer and not too expensive eg Knossos and the market in Heraklion was 39 euros each. However we preferred the flexibility of the buses, which are more like coaches anyway and are air conditioned.
All in all this was the best holiday we have ever had. If you have any doubts about going to Elounda Bay Palace, don’t! Just go, you will have a wonderful time!

Room Tip: We had a view of the mountain which was fine but the sea views are incredible so definitely pay extr...

I stayed at this hotel for a congress that was hosted here. It is an interesting place with two small blocks, but most of the rooms in separate little cottages. My room shared a pool with my neighbour! Unfortunately, I never had the time to indulge!
One note about the room - it did seem to have a very large population of ants and other insects, although they confined themselves to the bathroom - but it was a little disturbing to see such movement first thing in the morning!
The problem is, therefore, one of distances to and from the main building, or the adjacent hotel when events were shared between the two. Also, WiFi is only available in the main building and not in the cottages or grounds.
Breakfast was superb, beautifully presented and of very high quality and variety. The only meals I had, thereafter, were catered, so I cannot really comment on the restaurants, although they can do a really good beach-side barbecue!
The hotel seems to be in the middle of nowhere and is about an hour drive from Crete's main airport at Heraklion. Would I stay here again for leisure? I'm not sure. I wasn't really "wowed" but, then again, I was on my own and at a congress, so who knows how I would have reacted if I were with someone I wanted to be with!

Thank you for sharing with us your impressions of the Elounda Bay Palace where you were hosted for a conference. As you were with all the other members of the conference party and totally organized from early morning to late evening every day, you were not able to explore either the hotel or the surrounding area. Our hotel together with our sister hotel the Elounda Beach Hotel have 7 dining venues and 7 different bars to enjoy, plus 4 golden sandy beaches and a number of swimming pools. Just 10 minutes stroll from the gate of the hotel you arrive at the village of Elounda, with shops, bars and tavernas leading the way on the main road to the village harbour square. Just 7 klms or 5 minutes by taxi in the opposite direction you come to the bustling town of Agios Nikolaos, with its boutique shops and lake within the port surrounded by tavernas and café bars. Perhaps if you would consider another stay in Elounda and were not travelling for business, then it would be our pleasure to show you the truly delightful Cretan hospitality. We could suggest places locally where you could sample all that Elounda, as a unique destination in the Mediterranean, has to offer and then maybe you would also become one of the many loyal guests that return year after year to Elounda Bay Palace and the Elounda Beach Hotel, that they consider their home from home in the Med.

We have just returned from a wonderful 11 days stay in this resort and I am still thinking of it. Everything was just great!

We have booked a Deluxe Double Room with sea view and first we were given unfortunatelly a room which we didn't like too much (the view was not so good, the a/c too loud), but this thing has been changed immediately as they had another room available, which was after 2 nights. The 2nd room was just perfect and we have appreciated this very much - there was enough space for everything, clean, the temperature in the room very nice always, not too warm, the beds confortable and the sea view very nice. Due to this change of rooms and to another personal problem where we needed some help, we have come in contact with the Customer Service Department from the very beginning and here I must say first of all that having a special customer service relations office separate from reception I find it as a very good idea, and second of all the ladies working there are really good professionals. I didn't get to know all of them, but I don't have words enough to praise the young lady welcoming us in the evening of our arriving and then helping us and being there for us all the way - Smaragda, such a wonderful young lady, very good professional and great in her job, but not only that, also a very fine, open and friendly human, with a good positive energy.

This is what it has impressed me the most in this hotel, I must say, the people working there - such nice, open, friendly people, making everybody feel so welcome, smiling, fulfilling every wish and doing everything in a very professional, perfect way! I don't know all the names, but I must mention at least the ones I know - Eleni, Vagelia, Manolis, Georgia from the bar, Irini from the pool bar, thank you everybody! Looking around, I have noticed a familiar atmosphere and as I understood, so many of the customers were coming already since years and years, which speaks a great word for the quality offered here.

We had a halfboard plus, food was great both in the morning and in the evening, great variety and very good quality, every night a different theme.

The guests were mixed, many languages spoken, very good general impression, everyone nice and discrete. It's a hotel for couples and families, many children, but they never bother.

The beach and the pool area are very nice, there are beds in the sun and in the shadow, whatever one might prefere. The pool is great, I enjoyed being there every day.

We have tried once the restaurant open only for lunch, good quality, it's confortable if you don't want to leave the resort during the day, otherwise I would recommend the small restaurants in Elounda (20 mins walk), especially Makris (exactly in the centre). We've been also once in Thalassa, the restaurant open for dinner too, great atmosphere and sea view, very good service, live music and delicious food. It's a little bit expensive, but they deduct 25 EUR per person from the bill for the guests having halfboard.

The only negative point, I would say, is the fact that they don't have wi fi in the rooms, which forces you go to the lobby or bar every time you need it. I hope they will improve their network soon.

Great hotel, we will definitely go back! :)

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Elounda Bay Palace Hotel. A beautiful hotel in a stunning location. We were half board plus, that's bed, breakfast & evening meal with drinks included in the main dining room only. The food was lovely and the staff in all areas of the hotel were friendly, helpful, professional and very efficient. We also had lunch a few times at the restaurant on the beach which was excellent. The hotel is 15 mins stroll into Elounda which is packed with the usual souvenier shops, bars and restaurants. It costs 5 euros in a cab from the hotel into Elounda. The taxis were immaculate and the drivers smart, polite and helpful and there are plenty of them.
There are lots of different types of rooms available at the Elounda Bay Palace some with balconies, some with garden terraces, some with shared pools and others with their own private pools etc, etc. We stayed in a standard double room with a sea view. The bedroom and the bathroom were a bit small and jaded but the view from the balcony was stunning and the room spotlessly clean. There were nice touches such as fresh roses, wine & fruit in the room but if I were to go again I would book a larger more superior room.
We took the coach from the airport to the hotel which took over two hours with all the other drop offs so next time I'd book a taxi instead.
You can use the facilities at the Elounda Beach hotel next door which is a very pleasant 5 mins stroll away. This hotel is fabulous too with a Chopard & Rolex shop in the grounds for those who can afford to shop there, and there's a mini market just outside the grounds where you can purchase your water at normal prices or pay 3 euros 30 cents poolside.
There were a lot of families with small children and there appeared to be a lot of amenities around the hotel for them.
I can highly recommended this holiday resort for all ages.

Room Tip: Sea view is a must for me and I'd prefer a balcony to a garden terrace for more privacy.
