Just returned from one week holiday at the Elounda Bay Palace Hotel; when booking we had some concerns regarding past comments on this site particularly related to entertainment. This has clearly been changed and appears to have returned to normal. The staff is one of the things which stands out at this hotel, friendly, good service, service with a smile, nothing too much trouble, etc. Food of good quality and varied. We experienced temperatures in the early to mid 30's but the breeze kept it bearable. Overall a good holiday experience

Room Tip: Rooms at the front offer better views

Where to start .... From our arrival until we left everything was wonderful ! We were upgraded to a bungalow with sea view and our own pool. The bungalow was beautiful and very clean. The view over the bay and the mountains was to die for.
The food in the main restaurant was varied, healthy and attractively presented. We travel a lot and never we were served as by the waiters in this restaurant. They are all exceptional friendly and especially iyannis and his wife, the best ever ! The sailers bar is a very romantique place to have an apertif or to have a digestif after dinner and again the staff are more than friendly.
We rented a little sailboat twice and the guys of the water sports were very helpful and provided very friendly service.
The grounds of the complex, are beautiful, quiet and very clean and both beaches are a big bonus. A 10 minutes walk brings you to elounda village where you find a wide range of restaurants and bars.
We will definitely return to elounda bay palace, in fact i can t wait to return to this amazing place

We have variously visited elounda Bay Palace and Elounda Beach hotels for the last 12 years or so. Elounda Bay Palace hit rock bottom with our goodselves 2 years ago combined with the "Robinson" fiasco of last year. However despite previous experiences Elounda Bay Palace is a very special place and deserved a further visit. Therefore delighted to confirm that it is very much back in top spot for us. The staff have largely changed but the new younger members are both charming and efficient. The bar prices are now sensible which encourages guests to spend money in the Hotel. A fabulous turn around and will definately be returning...probably later this summer.Only one gipe the A/C unit in our room must be at the end of its life as it was both very noisy and not that efficient.

It was our greatest of pleasure to welcome you back to the Elounda Bay Palace. We are delighted to read that you have returned to the hotel and find that, although we have some new services and facilities, the Cretan hospitality that we are well known for enhanced your experience. We aim to succeed in our high standards of both services and facilities and we are happy to report that we have taken in to consideration the thoughts and opinions of our loyal guests over the years to perfect the holiday experience we now provide. We look forward to welcoming you again later this year to the Elounda Bay Palace hotel.

...also, superb food, comfortable rooms, excellent facilities! My wife and I spent a week there at the end of May and our only complaint is that we hadn't booked for longer! I'm sure we'll be joining the legion of repeat visitors before too long.

We had a deluxe room with a sea view, which was quite spacious and very comfortable, fresh roses most days, efficient and quiet air conditioning and (unexpected bonus) no mosquitoes! Though the hotel does provide a plug-in insect repellant, just in case.

Best thing of all are the hotel staff, who are charming, helpful and sincerely friendly.

The hotel complex, which is extensive and includes the Elounda Beach next door, is within an easy walk to the town of Elounda, that has a picturesque waterfront and many good restaurants and tavernas. Take the path that runs along the side of the Venetian salt pans and stroll over the isthmus towards the old mills and Olous, for Byzantine mosaics and a submerged city. The former leper colony on the tiny island of Spinlonga is a short boat ride away and makes for an interesting hour's exploration.

We also bought coach tickets for a tour of Knossos, from a chatty retired Yorkshireman at Altino Travel in Elounda, which was possibly a mistake. Knossos is fascinating (ignore any complaints you may come across about the quality of the restorations) and our guide was extremely knowledgeable but we hadn't accounted (and were not warned) that Elounda Bay Palace would be practically the first stop, at 7.35am, in two and a half hour's of picking up guests along the way, for a journey that would normally take about fifty minutes. That's two and a half hours dropping people off to get back, too! The tour also includes a visit to a cooperative winery and olive oil producer, which we could have done without, plus an hour or so to find lunch in Heraklion, which wasn't really long enough but we can heartily recommend the mixed grill at Izmir Kebap!

Room Tip: Sea views a nice and cost a little more.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your holiday experience with us at the Elounda Bay Palace Hotel. We are delighted that you so enjoyed your stay. It is the aim of our staff to provide a taste of the Cretan hospitality that our island is famous for within the unique lagoon setting of the natural bay of Mirabello. With our 1000m of coastline and 4 golden sandy beaches we have, as you point out a legion of loyal guests who stay at our hotel year after year and have become welcome friends.
As you have pointed out the organized coach tours may become tedious with a long pickup and drop off time so we would recommend using our expert knowledge to assist you to seeing the wonderful sites on Crete either by private car, taxi or hire car all of which we would be more than happy to provide for you. We look forward to welcoming you again to the Elounda Bay Place Hotel in the near future.

A group of us have been holidaying together for over 10 years and completely unprompted each one of us have said we would return to the Elounda Bay Palace. As a group it is difficult to upgrade accommodation especially when the hotel was hosting 2 company groups but we were pleasantly surprised to find on arrival that we had been upgraded to an all inclusive package. Apart from an initial hiccup on arrival with regard to special requirements the whole stay was enjoyed by all. The meals were attractively presented and plentiful, the staff were really helpful and, as we are all over retirement age we have no need for amenities etc so the relaxed atmosphere was just as we required. When you talk of staff its normally the restaurant, bar and housekeeping who take the plaudits but I must make special mention of the guy who looked after the loungers and parasols whenever we moved towards the sun beds etc he was on hand to provide cushions and towels, raise parasols etc. Just a little point but a nice touch. There is a waterside specialist fish restaurant within the hotel grounds which is well worth a visit, in fact we went twice. All in all a most enjoyable holiday and we fully intend returning.

We were fortunate to be upgraded to a seaview bungalow with shared pool which was wonderful. Superb hotel set in lovely grounds with two small sandy beaches. The staff were unfailingly helpful, cheerful and polite. Food was excellent. As the hotel was relatively quiet we were able to eat breakfast and dinner every day on a covered terrace overlooking the sea. The buffet area is separate from the dining area so there is no feeling of dining in a canteen as with other hotels we have been to. The location is also excellent. It takes about 20 minutes to walk into central Elounda with its many seaside restaurants and bars. There is a pavement from the hotel for about 500 metres before you reach the outskirts of Elounda. To avoid a busy road with no pavement, turn right off the road at the end of the pavement from the hotel at a sign saying 'Spinalonga - 750 metres to Elounda Square' This takes you along a path for about 200 metres where you meet the sea, at which point you can turn left and walk into Elounda via a quieter road and through the restaurants or turn right to the causeway which then takes you on an enjoyable walk over the peninsula opposite. We did the obligatory trip to Spinalonga Island from Elounda. 10 euro for the boat trip and 2 euro entry to the island. Absolutely no facilities whatsoever although we were fortunate that a large boat had docked and we were able to use its toilet. There is a little road train which takes you along the coast to Plaka which is a delightful village with shops and tavernas. The hotel grounds are linked to its sister hotel Elounda Beach which is another pleasant walk. Would thoroughly recommend the hotel and location.

Room Tip: Well worth paying for a sea view - beautiful

We would like to thank you for writing such a glowing review of your stay with us at the Elounda Bay Palace. One of the advantages of staying at this prestigious hotel is that it is only a short stroll from the pretty village, Elounda, that it named after. So with the village so near on one side and the added advantage of having the choice of all the facilities of the Elounda Beach Hotel, our sister hotel, on the other, where to dine is the hardest decision that you have during your stay. With the 7 different restaurants within our hotels and the village tavernas just in to the village, our guests have the best of both worlds. It is our aim at the Elounda Bay Palace to provide a holiday where our guests are offered the best of Crete, with our loyal, friendly and professional staff creating their own special brand of the famous Cretan hospitality. We look forward to welcoming you again to the Elounda Bay Palace for a future holiday at this special hotel.

We've been to Elounda Bay Palace a number of times but this year (2012) the hotel has made major changes to it's operation and all of them are bad.
The hotel has handed entertainment management to a German company, Robinsons, and transformed the hotel from a restful, relaxing and peaceful place to an 18-30 singles resort with loud music from the open air bar until midnight every night and HiDeHi activities for the new clientele throughout the day.
Only go if you want to take advantage of the new facilities.
We have been assured that Robinsons will not feature in 2013 but the hotel will be operating the same type of facilities directly.
There is much better on offer at other hotels in the area so don't take the risk

Thank you for sharing your experience with the readers of Trip Advisor website. We respect the right of all individuals to express their opinions. Robinson Club introduced a Wellfit concept to our hotel with both sporting and fitness facilities and healthy food concept in our main restaurant. Our co operation with Robinson was terminated at the end of 2012 and we have returned the management back to our local team, many of whom have been with the hotel for over 30 years. We have no plans to have any sort of ‘HiDeHi’ entertainment as mentioned above, rather to offer complimentary the wellness facilities such as the centre for Yoga, Pilates and fitness classes, the gym, Sauna and Ham am, to our guests for their enjoyment. We would like to thank the many, many loyal guests who have chosen the Elounda Bay Palace for their annual holidays over the years and assure them that we listen to their suggestions when we make changes at the hotel. Our renovated rooms and wide sporting facilities and friendly, loyal staff are some of the highlights that draw many of our guests back this year and with our own special brand of Cretan Hospitality we shall be looking forward to welcoming all to this special and unique beach resort in Elounda.
