“A great hotel, excellent service, brilliant for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

This was our first foray into family friendly hotels and the Porto did not let us down. The hotel admittedly isn't the super stylish hotels I'm used to and in areas it is a bit tired, but it made up for it in far more important places. Firstly the service was fantastic, the staff could not do enough for you (including going to the local village to get soya milk for my son), they ferried us about by golf buggy because I had a minor injury but most of all were just consistenly fiendly and helpful and very accomodating to my 2yr old.
The room we had was recently refurbished (a suite on the 5th floor) and perfect for our needs (not all rooms have been recently refurbished). the spa is amazing and a little piece of tranquility and heaven , my only failure was to not visit it until our last day. The spa is expensive and I think the best treatments are the massages not the beauty treatments such as facials and mani/pedis which are very expensive for what they are.
The only drawback is the food, it is quite expensive and limited options within the hotel. The pool bar offers 3 different sandwiches at lunchtime and that's it and they cost €20 each. The lunchtime restaurant had a very limited menu and again quite pricey... often all you want is a light snack at lunchtime and this was never on offer - I understand they were refreshing the menu to offer more variety as we were leaving so hopefully this will have improved. Re the price, I suggest if half board is an option then take it.
I would go back to this hotel again - we had a great holiday.

Room Tip: all rooms have sea view, we were next to the lift and it was noise free.

My friend and I stayed at the main hotel for a week in June. The experience was amazing. The staff were so lovely, especially in the main hotel restaurant, spa and reception. We spent many hours having spa treatments, just relaxing by the infinity pool and using the sauna/steam room. The spa is stunning and is kept immaculately clean all the time. The peppermint smell in the changing rooms is also an amazing touch! For the duration of the stay we had free access to yoga, tai chi, aqua aerobics and gym stick.

The food in the Nafsika was great and there was lots of selection at breakfast and at dinner. We also dined one evening at the Calypso restaurant which has a Michelin two star chef. The food here was wonderful.

I recommend the Serenes Bar which is right over the edge of the sea. You have to walk around the path at the edge of the rocks to get to it. If you go here in the evening all you can hear is the waves and the nice chillout music they play.

We booked transfers to and from the airport which was good. We were not very experienced with airports but the man from the hotel at the airport was so helpful, we did not even have to lift our hold luggage until we got back to the UK and he showed us where the security que was.

Thank you Porto Elounda Deluxe for an unforgetable experience!

i was in this hotel with my family ( 5 rooms).
the beach and pool are great . the rooms were very clean and the food was great.
we had to leave the hotel at 5:20 am , and we had a big surprise to find out that the hotel organized breakfast specially for us!!
the service at the beach and the restaurant were exellent.
the broblem was the air condition in my room. only after five times of complains to the reception , somebody came to fix it.

Everything that is written here is true and we had a great time with our 14 month old son .

One word to Alex , if a bottle of coke cost 1 euro in the vollage of elounda and 3.3 euro in porto elounda then the prices of the extras are a little bit high in the hotel , no matter what is going on in other places.

I even think that if you reduce the price of the extras you will sell more and get the same amount of money , for sure you will get better feedbacks.

Anyway the hotel is great , the team is wonderful and we had a very good time

Just got home from a one week stay. The location of the hotel was lovely, on a private little beach with a fantastically clear and inviting sea. All of the staff at the hotel were charming and professional. During our stay there was a taxi strike for 3 days (which clearly wasnt the hotels fault) however, this made it seem a little remote as we couldnt get into town during the evenings to eat (we prefer this to eating in the hotel). The buffet breakfast was fine, and served between 7am to 10.30am which suited us as we like to eat fairly late in the morning. During the strike we ate at the Old Mill Restaurant at the sister hotel Elounda Mare and another night at the Calypso Restaurant in the Pennisula All Suites Hotel. We much prefered the Old Mill and thought Calypso a little stuffy and lacking in atmosphere (the sort of place where you feel obliged to talk in hushed tones). Both were slightly expensive (as an example the beef fillet in Calypso was €47) but food was good quality and service was excellent. Once taxis were available (€7 euros each way) we ate in Elounda each night and had lovely local meals at very reasonable prices (Ergospasio, The Ferryman and Lotus Eaters all being worthy of a mention).
Our room was one of the standard ones and was fine and quite spacious but nothing special. A pet hate of mine is that instead of a proper double bed we had two large singles pushed together (which invariably came apart during the night). The bathroom in particular was a disappointment and didnt meet my expectations of a bathroom in a 5* Hotel. There was no separate shower cubicle, just a shower attachment fitted to the bath taps and each time either of us took a shower we ended up with water all over the bathroom floor.
A real highlight of our stay was the sixth senses spa. I had the hot stone massage and my husband the oriental massage. We both loved our treatments and also enjoyed spending a couple of hours beforehand using the spa facilities, the thermal suite and the thallasotherapy pools - definitely shouldnt be missed.

My family and I recently visited the Elounda Deluxe Hotel. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly attentive staff, although our room was not ready even though we had been delayed. The hotel is very clean and located in an amazing position overlooking the bay. The pool area is very clean and the pool staff are very helpful bringing you beach towels and sun lounger cushions. The rooms we occupied were not of a 5* standard. We were travelling with our two small children and decided to place them in crèche every morning. The crèche was outstanding; we could not fault anything although we did pay through the nose for it. The restaurants in the hotels are amazing and even the regular half board restaurant served good food. Although it was best to order from the menu rather than go out to the buffet.
The biggest let down of the whole holiday was how expensive everything was. At the pool bar a club sandwich cost 22 Euros, a large beer 6 Euros and a large bottle of water 6 Euros. The cheapest bottle of wine on the wine list was 35 Euros. To top this off there was no entertainment at the hotel. No one wanted to drink in the hotel bars due to the cost of the drinks. Having two small children we had no choice but to stay at the hotel.
When we came to vacate the hotel we had to go through our bill with a fine tooth comb. The hotel had added a multitude of bills to our room which were not ours; it was a real battle to get them to remove them. To top the holiday off when we were loading our bags into the taxi the manager came out to us to say he had missed off a couple of beers which had been drunk on the first night we arrived at the hotel.
To summarize;
The hotel is a complete rip off, you don’t expect to come away on holiday and feel financially cheated especially when you have spent a lot of money on the accommodation and getting to the resort.
BEWARE lovely hotel, great setting but take your credit card cos you’ll need it!

We were sold the holiday as a relaxing holiday for a family. We have two small children; the hotel is not child friendly. It has steep drops in the reception area, lots of stairs and the lift did not fit my double buggy!
However, the children’s crèche was outstanding and all the staff were very attentive and friendly. The rooms do not come up to the standard of a 5* hotel.

PortoElounda, General Manager at Porto Elounda Golf & Spa Resort, responded to this review, July 7, 2011
Dear Sir / Madam
On behalf of the entire staff of porto elounda I would like to thank you for taking the time to review our property. I would also like to thank you very much for your kind words regarding our staff, the location of our property and our multi-awarded Children's Ark. We are also very happy that you enjoyed the food at our restaurants.
Regarding your comments about the rooms please note that standard rooms at porto elounda are 37m2 all of which face the sea. Also all rooms feature an LDC 37'' flat screen tv , a dvd , a mini bar ,dressing table with hairdryer, electronic safety deposit box, hypo-allergic pillows and feather pillows and a furnished private balcony. Also please note, that besides the fact that our country faces a very difficult economical situation, we decided to invest into our hotel and for 2011 all rooms and suites have been refurbished with new beds and fabrics.
As a resort we offer a number of entertainment options: dining (choice of five restaurants for dinner with different ambience and menus) 3 bars (lobby area , beach bar and the jetty Serenes bar for drinks before and after dinner) theme nights like Cretan and Fishermen’s night weekly, exhibitions and art gallery. Apparently you were not familiar with the above options, though a weekly program is available at the reception, but we might not have done much of an in-house marketing from our part.
We are sorry to read that you find our prices expensive but we can assure you that we have done a large survey and our prices are very competative to other Meditterenean resorts. Also please note that a large bottle of mineral water does not cost 6 euro as you mention at your review but 4.30 and the cheapest bottle of wine does not cost 35 euro but 25 euro. Regarding the prices of the Children's Ark please note that we charge for children from 6 months to 5 years old only since a large number of staff is required for the special care of young children.

Thanking you again warmly and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to porto elounda de luxe resort in the near future.

Your sincerely
Alex Glynos
