I can't improve on the description in the review that Scarlet-Poppy wrote below. Four of us were visiting Elounda for the day from Amounda in late September and had an early dinner at the Kalypso. The general level of sophistication (for want of a better word) of the restaurant compared with the other tavernas along the strip on that side of the harbour marks it out while the prices don't. Food was excellent (we all had the special menu at EUR 16 including a glass of wine), service quick and friendly and the view across the harbour was just wonderful.

Highly recommended -- we'll eat there again if we are fortunate enough to be in Elounda again.

I don't know why this restaurant isn't higher up the listings. It is in a lovely spot overlooking the harbour and the decor is beautiful. I can only think that it's because it looks a little too fancy compared to the usual Greek Taverna!? But please go and try it. The prices are excellent value - especially the special menu. 16 euros for the meat menu and 21 for the fish. 4 courses and a glass of wine included.

The food was gorgeous - I have been to a couple of fancy places in London that didn't impress me as much as this. And whilst the food isn't rustic Greek (moussaka, stifado etc) it is still very Greek in it's origins - with baked feta in honey and sesame seed, freshly cooked fish in delicate sauces, fresh, vibrant salads.

The icing on the cake is the piano and guitar music who play a wide range of contemporary music and make the occasion feel quite special. But you don't need a special occasion as an excuse!!

We'll go back on our last night :)

We spent two weeks in Elounda and ate in different restaurants every night, except that we went back to Calypso on our last night after visiting it the previous week. The food is excellent, service excellent and quality of the restaurant in general was fabulous. It didn't cost any more than other similar restaurants in the area, but was much better in terms of the whole experience. It was quiet when we ate there both times which was surprising, as it certainly deserved to be packed out. The flautist/guitarist and pianist added to the experience.

Having spent two weeks at the Blue Palace we can absolutely recommend this as the finest dining experience in the area. A superb menu and excellent wine list, wonderful service too - don't miss it!

The food, service and music in this restaurant were all top-notch! My mum and I had the sea bass and it was to die for - so fresh and the mash that went with it was gorgeous! The risotto and baklava were also heavenly. The staff were very attentive and welcoming. There was some piano-playing in the background that was a nice add-on. When I return to Elounda, I will be definitely be going back here for more than one dinner!
