We chose Katafygio for our first evening as a result of reading Tripadvisor reviews and can certainly endorse most of what has been said. Although our first visit to Elounda on arrival we were welcomed by Nikos and his family as though we were old friends. It is situated on the seafront with a lovely view over the bay and has a super atmosphere. We had a lovely meal and although we usually eat at different tavernas each night this one was irresistable to the point that we went there on four occasions over our two week stay. We always choose Greek specialities or grills and were never disappointed at any of the places we chose. We place this one tops simply for the warm and friendly welcome each time we visited (or even passed by on our way to other places) and would recommend it. Because of medical problems we had to sometimes refuse the complimentary offerings at the end of our meal and on the last night Nikos insisted on giving us a bottle of his fathers red wine to bring back home. We never go back to a holiday destination, there are many more islands yet to be visited, but Elounda is one place we could return to and Katafygio one taverna which would be a first choice. Do try it!

Fairly extensive menu at very reasonable prices. Lovely waterfront setting and excellent service. After our main meal we were given a varied selection of complementary items starting with a cup of cinnamon tea, a typical Greek dessert and drink. Their generosity was amazing. Lovely people.

over 3 years and34 evening meals in elounda we have yet to be disappointed in any place we have eaten -this is a top resort! but always spend more time at katafygio than anywhere else.the difference quite simply is the owner and front of house man nicos.most places when you are in the "front" man is only interested in the next customer nicos works all the tables to ensure you have a good evening then when his food service is over he goes inside to run his music bar/nightclub until the wee hours the guy is not about money but life top tip never order a dessert in elounda you will invariably get one usually when you ask for the bill

As ever a totally friendly , not pushy or intrusive front of house guy ( Nikos I think was his name) we ate here last year and were impressed so ate again this time round and it was just as fab

Sorry cant remember every ones starters - but I know I had grilled cheese with a side of chilli that was just sublime !

Main course my other half had a meat platter at a very reasonable 15 euros - a massive plateful of fantastically tender , well cooked meats ..and so much on there he needed a doggy bag .. ( and if you had ever met my husband you'd realise that thats never ever happened before .. anywhere ! )

Mun had a grilled pork chop in wine sauce - again so much she needed a doggy bag ...... we ate the leftovers for lunch the next day and everything was still so tender and moist my mouth is actually watering as I type !

For afters we had complimentary baklavva and mango ice cream --and also a slightly different spin on the traditional Raki -- one infused with honey and cinnamon ... which made it taste like a aged liqueur and was absolutely sublime

The restaurant does actually have a " nightclub" attached to it ..... translation a local DJ that comes in and spins tunes where there is a space of "dance floor" by the bar to boogie if you want to -- its not heavily advertised and Elounda doesnt have the " malia mentality" by any means ..... definitely more frequented by locals to be fair .We were walking home one evening towards the end of the holiday (when we had intended to have an earlier night ) and Nikos persuaded us to pop in for a drink and we did have a bit of a dance for a giggle .... but wasnt busy in there and please dont be put off by the fact its termed a night club ..... it really is more somewhere you can go for a later drink and have music playing if you wanted. You cant hear it when you walk past the restaurant and is an option for a different end to an evening if you ever feel that way inclined !!
