Description: Nikos Fish Tavern is the best fish-tavern in Elounda. Is a family Fish tavern placed in the square of Elounda Village ,estimated from 1972. From our boats, we can taste daily fresh fish and all the greek sea-food. Also you can taste Greek and Mediteranian cousine.

Great food! All home made by the grand mother. The other 3 generations take care of the customers. They serve so much food that we couldn't finish. We recommend the moussaka, the fried aubergines and the Elounda Fish plate to share!

We visited Nikos' on St Constantine's day following the procession through the town and were the only non-Greeks in this very crowded and noisy taverna.
The service was slow, as expected because of the crowds, and the food of average quality. The house red wine was not as good as that served in several other tavernas, but still drinkable.
Cost for 2 starters, 4 mains, a litre of house red, one large Mythos, and with gratis raki and fresh fruit slices as sweet, was €53, cheaper than most tavernas.

At the end of the day it can be summed up as 'average'.

We visited this little restaurant many years ago and did not stay as we were advised that the stated opening hours had changed and no food would be available for another hour or so. Most disappointing!

Nevertheless we are pleased to state that having visited this quaint restaurant twice in a week that a revisit was well worth the effort.

The 'Fish Bar' is located on the high street opposite the harbour but behind the kiosk that sells cigarettes etc. Part of the restaurant is an enclosure by the kiosk and across the road is the main event, all very Greek.

The interior is typically Greek in style but upstairs the toilets are modern and clean. There were a lot of locals here and indeed on our first night their children were playing on the floor and you had to walk round them until mums sorted them out. However this seemed to add to the authenticity of the place as everyone was so friendly. There were some smokers but it was not oppressive and did not bother us as much as we might have thought.

We like our food and it is lovely to see the cook in action. How they cope in such a small place is a wonder.

We had Greek salad, Calamari cooked to perfection, Cuttlefish, wonderful,Fava and a Green Bean Fava type thing which was lovely.

The breads are more Dakos rusk, served with olive oil, delicious.

As a dessert we were given a platter of fresh fruit and raki gratis. Then out came a giant bean pod each to finish off, Yummy.

There is a huge selection available and the fish whilst not cheap, looked fantastic.

If you are looking for something posh, this is not for you. However if you want a warm Cretan welcome, with delicious Cretan food this may well be the place you are looking for.

We will return later in the year. Highly recommended.

Very friendly service, with delicious, fresh and copious helpings. Much better value than the more feted restaurants on the sea front.
