My husband and I have just returned from a week at the Domes, with our two daughters aged almost two and almost four. We are now waiting to confirm school holiday dates before booking again for next year! It was amazing! The hotel and it's situation are breathtaking! I could rave about the warm shallow sea of Spinalonga bay, the pinch yourself beauty of sitting by the pool looking at Spinaloga itself, the "ohmygoodness I am going to have to try everything" fabulous food of the restaurant buffet and the picturesque cobbled hill of suite apartments, which make up the hotel accomodation. I am aware however that I could write forever on all of these points and I think the reviews on this website cover them.

I just wanted to pay a tribute to the amazing staff at the Domes. We could not get over how kind and welcoming everybody was. We arrived late at night with two tired children. The hotel had thoughtfully provided some sandwiches and other snack type food in our room, together with water and wine (which we didn't think we could face after the trials of the journey... Turns out we could!). There was a confusion around our booking, but the hotel graciously moved us to one of the two bedroom properties the next day, as soon as one became available. These are amazing, a little way away from the main hotel buildings, but the buggies can zoom you there in a few minutes, and I think this was one of the girls' favourite parts of the holiday!

The hotel is so impossibly glamorous and swish, that I was a bit anxious about how it would work with toddlers in tow. However the whole arrangement has been well thought out. Kids are allowed in the main buffet restaurant only and then only until 8pm. The majority of families are all finished well before 7.30pm. The restaurant food is fabulous and there is a counter of slightly more child friendly meals for any fussy eaters. This counter is lower than the others, so kids can help themselves. Whilst we were there, it was Halloween. So there were jack O'lanterns and other seasonal decorations on this table. All of the restaurant staff are incredibly friendly and professional.

There is similar consideration on the beach where there is a quiet zone right next to the beach bar and then a family friendly stretch of beach, next to the kids club, where all kids can borrow buckets and spades and other toys. When we were there the outdoor pools were too cold (although the sea was fine) but kids are allowed in the spa pool until midday. After this point it is returned to an adult only oasis of calm.

It is perfectly possible for a family to have a fun-filled, bucket and spade, Halloween loving, kid friendly holiday in the same hotel as a couple enjoying child free restaurants, peace and quiet on the beach and luxurious spa treatments in treasured silence. Having said that, I might be biased, but I think watching a couple of three years olds shyly dancing in front of the piano in the evening is a lovely part of being on holiday. I have seen other reviews saying that kids were running riot in the restaurant, all I can say is that whilst we were there, the kids were all having early suppers, so if you can wait until 8.30 you should be fairly certain of peace and quiet.

What makes all of this possible is the stupendous team of staff at the Domes. They all remember the names of the children and greet them with genuine warm affection each day. My kids went from high-fiving hello's on day one, to throwing their arms out for hugs by day 3! Special thanks to Christian, Katerina and Sergio and a massive thanks to Maggie in the restaurant. Watching my girls give Maggie hastily crafted goodbye cards made from paper and scribbled over with felt tips, before saying how much they would miss her, made me choke up!

I had been worried that given there is a crèche and kids club, all children would be absent from the beach and my girls wouldn't have had any playmates, but this wasn't the case at all. There were lots of little ones to make sandcastles with and share toys with.

Anyway I have to go now - need to look at flights for 2014!

Room Tip: The two bedroom properties are slightly removed from the main complex, but are cheaper than the two...

I can't speak highly enough of the attention to detail at the Domes. The staff were incredible. I travel a lot in America and they beat some of the best service I have had over there - and you don't have to tip !

We took our 3 year old with us and were relieved to see that there were many other children there as well. There is a designated children/family area in the restaurant, so we were kept apart from the other hotel guests without children, which is great and spares a lot of extra stress if you have tired little ones with you.

The view from the suites/pool/restaurant/bar is incredible. Like something from a movie set.

I agree with others on the cost of drinks, way over-priced. We bought our own from the supermarket in town.

The private beach isn't particularly sandy, but the water is shallow enough for the kids to paddle about. The bar service on the beach is also incredible.

I don't know who does the staff training at this hotel, but they deserve very high praise as it was a huge reason as to why we will definitely be returning again next year.

Room Tip: The higher you go the better the view ! Golf buggies run all day and night to carry you to your suit...

We have just arrived home from an absolute amazing holiday at the 'The Domes of Elounda'! 24th-31st October. This was our first time we had been to Greece.
We were excited to have booked such a luxurious holiday to begin with.. To celebrate a very late honeymoon but also to just 'get away, have some sun and just relax'.
It was abit of a 'to-do' because we were debating between the Canaries or Greece!
* The travel agencies didn't recommend Greece this time of year because the weather can be that bit more colder/windy.. We decided to look into booking the whole holiday ourselves and book everything individually. Now having been there we were so pleased we went with our hearts!!
Once we had arrived at The Domes, it was even better in the flesh!
We were welcomed and greeted by the lovely Maria, then taken through to the gorgeous bar area for a glass of champagne each and Maria explained everything to us about the resort etc. Maria along with one of the 'buggy boys' who help you with your luggage then took us to our suite..
We were 'Wow'd'.. The suite was truly amazing (better than the pictures online) and the view over island Spinalonga and Elounda Bay was truly mesmerizing and breathtaking!
I kept thinking to myself, 'I can't believe we're here'! Lol.
One of the reasons we booked the domes was because of the private suites, rooms, villas you can choose from when you book, with all facilities there, two pools (one for the children, one for adults), private beach and on a b&b or half board basis.
We had chosen a suite, more of a private one (on request by us), with a heated hot tub/jacuzzi outside and balcony with a sea view (even though they all do really!) Separate tv lounge area, massive bathroom, beautiful decor with black granite tiles, with a jacuzzi bath, loo and separate shower.
We were quite high up but this was quite good for legs exercise or if not they do have golf buggies that will pick you up, drop you back to your suite etc which is very handy! The maids service is brilliant. Very efficient and then around 6pm a maid would knock on your door offering you fresh towels. This was handy because we used the hot tub nearly every day, so meant we had a nice clean towel for a shower or bath later before getting ready for dinner.
Gianna at head office helped my husband book our whole experience at the domes. She was very efficient and helpful. The extras that Gianna had sorted for us were totally amazing and extremely appreciated.
The hotel welcomes families as well as adults/couples. Their are areas for families and couples, with couples often selecting the 'quiet zone' area that was sign posted.
We felt this was a nice touch and welcomed by us. There was only one occasion when we were on the beach in the 'quiet area' where two young girls had run from the family beach area into the quiet area, but within 2 minutes, their Mum had come running down to get them and apologized to us for them being there. We were absolutely fine and wernt bothered by them at all, after all, it's the kidos holiday too and they were just having fun!
We had booked on a half board basis and the food was just totally amazing. The best food buffet we have had to date. Offering a wide variety of different foods and all fresh.
We sat outside most evenings as the weather was pleasant (they have patio heaters outside anyway) and seemed to be geared up for couples with tables of two's. Our waitress Alexandra was so lovely and very welcoming come mornings and evenings. You will notice they use the same staff every day.
Unfortunately, I do not drink wine..yes I know!!.. My husband does so when he ordered a bottle of wine and didn't finish it they offered to keep it for him till the next evening. He did this a few times. This was brilliant as the wine wasn't cheap, but your on holiday after all! I would often order a cocktail from the bar to be brought through.
Most evening's we would walk through to the bar after for a cuppa tea, coffee or my hubby a brandy where we were welcomed by the older George and a bar attender. The only negative really..The drinks seemed slightly over priced. It would be good to see the drinks cheaper in the bar. On two of the evening's we had a duo band in the bar which was lovely.
There are no tea and coffee facilities in your suite.. Come some evenings this would of been welcomed! We had mentioned this to a member of staff and sure enough the next day they had brought us a brand new kettle, selection of teas, coffee and sugar.
We did go to the local supermarket in Elounda and stock up on our own beers, wine and soft drinks for the room. The staff here are ok for you to use the fridge (take the mini bar out and just put back at the end of your holiday).
You are a 5 mins drive from Plaka which is beautiful, Elounda which is a 10 mins drive away and then Aglious Nicholas which is a 20 mins drive away.
We had decided to hire our own car for the whole holiday. Please note we used, 'Anna Cars', directly opposite the arrivals area outside at the airport..They were brilliant. A gentleman greeted us holding up a named board so we knew who to go to. He then helped us with our luggage and took us to the car lot where our car was. Highly recommended should you want to hire a car.
Every day except two days we ventured out after breakfast while we had the sunny hot weather to explore the area. Elounda is local, pretty with some some boutique shops. We ate in the 'Olondi' restaurant towards the end of the strip at the front right by the sea. Very traditional, welcoming, amazing food, good value brilliant service and staff. We ate here once for lunch and then decided to go out for one evening too where we did use a taxi service which cost 7euros each way so we could both drink!
We went into Aglious NIcholas a couple of mornings also. I loved it here..Lanes of shopping. We did go out on a trip whilst here, on a glass bottom boat in the sea. This was great fun and suitable for anyone.
On the other two days.. One morning we went to the spa at the domes where the staff were fab and very knowledgeable. This was given to us complimentary and we had the whole spa to ourselves from 12-1pm. We thoroughly enjoyed this and really relaxed.
On the other day and a few afternoons we hit the beach, which was perfect, peaceful and very scenic.
We ate in all the restaurants. They all offered something different. The bbq evening on Wednesday was brilliant. You pay a price per head for all food and that included the entertainment too.
We are so pleased we chose this area of Crete to stay in. The weather was perfect for us also at mostly 28 everyday and slightly cooler come the evenings.
We can't wait to go back, some day very soon and even look into a villa so we can go with all the family.
We just want to mention.. all the staff here are very friendly, helpful, offered fab service and extremely welcoming. To name a few, Gianna, Little George, Older George, Maria and all the golf buggy boys! In particular they were very chatty and willing to help you at no cost at all.
If you are looking for a hospitable, welcoming, friendly, great food and outstanding service holiday where you don't mind spending a little more than normal-as a treat (but value for money), then take a holiday at The Elounda Domes. :)

From,
Mr. & Mrs. Napthine.

Room Tip: We had room 414 which was exceptional.

We have just returned from a most amazing holiday at this beautiful hotel, in an absolutely idyllic setting looking across to Spinalonga. We were warmly welcomed by Maria and the team and from the moment of our arrival until our departure yesterday we were superbly looked after and the hospitality we received was impeccable. The hotel staff catered admirably for people of all ages and we were delighted to see so many families enjoying the great facilities - with quiet areas for those who preferred peace and quiet. Maggie and the other restaurant staff were extremely attentive, and combined warm friendliness with real professionalism. The food was excellent and varied. We loved listening to Konstantinos the pianist, as well as the live music in the bar area - all great musicians. Constantina, Nikos and the other beach staff were delightful and always keen to help. This is the best hotel we have ever stayed in, with the most superb staff and we very much hope to return.

Room Tip: A few rooms have a number of steps to negotiate - so worth checking if elderly or infirm visitor.

We stayed at the Domes during the last week of October and enjoyed unseasonally spectacular weather. The sea was perfect for swimming each day, tremendous views are to be seen from the beach and a speed boat is available for private transfers to Spinalonga from the beach itself.
Although we were offered a place in the quiet section of the beach by the very welcoming and helpful Nikos, we preferred the lively atmosphere in the family section where we found the children delightful and largely well-behaved, enjoying their half term holiday and making friends with each other and the staff. In fact we found the range of age-groups catered for to be a positive as we have often holidayed with older people on organised tours.

All staff were genuinely helpful and friendly and the service in all areas was second to none.
The buffet was varied, delicious and interesting and we ate far too much in wishing to try out all the regional and international cuisine! Professional Greek dancers entertained us on one evening and it was great to get the chance to have a go - especially as entertainment generally in the surrounding area was non-existent at this tail end of the season.

This is a spectaular location looking straight out over Spinalonga Island and the sea, with boats at regular intervals passing by. Mountains on another island ahead and behind the hotel. A great place to relax!

Stayed at the Domes for a week in October as a family of 3 (daughter aged 3). Bed and breakfast. A very good hotel with excellent staff that provide an all-round 5 star experience that was very relaxing. The Domes is just outside Elounda with fantastic views over the island of Spinalonga (worth a boat trip from Plaka)

What's good / great:?
Service levels were excellent across the board from start to finish - good with children and nothing too much trouble
Nice rooms, well equipped with great views - hot tub a nice touch (we were in a 1 bed suite which was fine as daughter slept in lounge area)
Breakfast is excellent in terms of both variety and quality
The golf buggy ride up the hill to your suite can save weary legs and the children love it
Private beach provides lovely alternative to the pool - plenty of shade available
Very clean
Kids club facilities run by reputable firm
All suites / villas set up means that even when fully booked it still doesn't feel crowded
WiFi seemed to work well everywhere, even on the beach

Could do better:
The food and drink on site is expensive for what it is and lacks variety (apart from breakfast). We went to the Cretan dining experience one night and it was not really worth it. More variety at lunch would be better. Better value to head in to Elounda and try some of the restaurants there, especially if you are with children, for a bit of variety and, in some cases, great quality.
The main pool area doesn't feel particularly luxurious, although perfectly fine and the beach is a better option I think.

All in all, an excellent hotel.

Stayed in the first two weeks of October and had a fabulous time at the Domes. Staff and service absolutely brilliant. Special thanks to George, Alexandra and all the fantastic beach staff.
In common with other reviewers we found the number of children to be high but the hotel has addressed this by allocating a specific area in the restaurant for family groups and setting up a quiet area at the beach. We also found that eating in the outside quiet area of the restaurant was preferential but we would reccommend sitting next to one of the lamp stands otherwise this time of year seeing your food becomes tricky when it gets dark. Take a trip from Plaka to Spinalonga (€8 for the boat + €2 entry) to experience first hand leper colony so beautifully described in the novel The Island by Victoria Hislop. Would certainly holiday here again and would be pleased to recommend it to anyone who enjoys a peaceful holiday in the sun!
