Description: Beautiful, stylish restaurant built on the old Kastelli wall in the wonderful, picturesque Venetian harbour of Chania. Established in 1993, Kariatis enjoys an excellent reputation for top quality food and service with an impressive menu created and served with proficiency and flair. Imaginative and refreshingly different dishes inspired by flavoursome, colourful, aromatic ingredients from both Crete and Italy offering an appetizing assortment of Italian and Mediterranean dishes and delicious gourmet desserts. Also serves fresh filleted fish dishes including sea bass, salmon and tuna and lots of luscious seafood pasta and risotto dishes. During the winter months we will be seducing sushi lovers with our sensational sushi. Kariatis also offers an extensive selection of award-winning Greek and International wines from around the world.

This is my favorite restaurant in Chania. The fillets are a thing of beauty. I don't have anything really negative to say and the service always seems to be exceptional. Kudos...

We have been going to Kariatis in Chania for thirteen years and would highly recommend it. Both the food and the service are excellent and I would advise booking as the restaurant does get busy, even out of season. A little more expensive than tavernas, but still reasonable if you compare it to a similar restaurant in the UK. There is a wide variety of starters including salmon and avocado, gnocchi and crepes. Their salads are big enough to share. The restaurant has an Italian theme and main courses include risottos, pasta and delicious thin crust pizzas. There is also a long list of meat dishes, my husband's favourites being pork merlot and chicken Dijon. I am vegetarian and have a great choice among the pasta, pizza and risotto dishes. There is a good choice of desserts as well if you have room. Kariatis has an excellent wine list to cover most tastes and budgets. It's a great place for a special occasion or just if you want a good meal.

Dined at the restaurant in February. Didn't have to make a reservation, but the restaurant did get quite busy later on despite being out of season. I would imagine it gets very busy in summer.

We sat upstairs in the room with the star lights in the ceiling. The service was impeccable, and the food was absolutely delicious. We thought it was pretty good value as well, I recall that the bill was only around 70 Euros for mains, wine and dessert for two.

Quite a romantic setting as well.

Highly recommended.

Since arriving in Crete 7 years ago we searched for the 'special' restaurant for those important occasions - birthdays, anniversary etc. Silver service restaurants are few and far between here and those that promised such often disappointed with lacklustre service and less than top notch food. We found Kariatis about 3 years ago and have been there a number of times each year since. The food has always been superb (we have mostly had a starter then a meat dish - the steaks are wonderful) the staff friendly and efficient and the choice of wines wide and varied. We have never been disappointed although Valentines Day has become rather too crowded for us. Booking is always advised as this special restaurant is very popular with locals, visitors and those like us who travel from Rethymno for our special occasions - it's good that this restaurant is 70km away so that we cannot go too often which keeps it special.

Great starters! Staff very polite and considerate, our one main dish of pasta was not all that - however it was a nice overall experience we will be eating there again.
