“Simply lovely !”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

We came across Orestis quite by chance on Trip Advisor and we're so glad we did. Both the apartments and the village location are lovely, hospitable, peaceful and incredibly welcoming. Being set on a hillside, the views to the hills and coast on one side, and to the mountains and Chania on the other, are an absolute treat; quite idyllic. The garden and pool areas are excellent and maintained to a high standard, with the apartments themselves being spotlessly clean. Platon, the owner, could not be more welcoming or helpful and very much adds to the pleasure of staying at Orestis ! Many guests return there year on year, and we can absolutly understand why - and fully intend doing likewise !

Orestis is situated in the village of Ano Stalos, a short drive from the sea. From the hotel, views exist of both sea and mountains. The views are spectacular both at day and night. The hotel has a set of apartments in a tranquil pool and garden setting. Each apartment has two separate balconies facing both sea and countryside. Accommodation also exists in the house onsite (dating back to the Turkish period) and this is where Orestis combines both a historic and modern setting. You can use Orestis as a base to the beach, visits to other parts of Crete, or do nothing but lie by its pool with an occasional swim, or a combination of two or more of these activities. If you are energetic, the beach is within walking distance. Alternatively, do as we did, and hire a car for part of the stay and walk and use taxis for the remainder. The choice is there because everything you want is within reach. Chania can be easily accessed by car, or alternatively, use of bus is easy. Platon who owns Orestis, will give you all the necessary advice ahead of any planned trip and an exchange of emails in advance will finalise any personal plans needed to make the holiday a great stay. We find Orestis a 'home from home' and recommend it to anyone who wants a wonderful vacation.

We stayed three days at Hotel Orestis in September 2012. The first impression when we arrived is that, while it is so close to Hania and the very touristic coast line, the village where it's situated, Ano Stalos, is a quite traditional place where you can still see locals sitting in front of their homes and talking to the neighbours.
The second positive thing was the very warm and helpful welcome of his owner Platon, a very nice man with a prodigious memory!! He gave us some recommendations about places to go and to eat in the Hania area. We followed them and didn't regret : )
Enjoy your stay!

Room Tip: All rooms in the modern part of the hotel have views to the mountain and to the swimming pool.

We stayed 11 days at the Hotel Orestis, three adults and two children and it was our second holiday there.
Hotal Orestis is located in a nice and quiet area, where the relaxed life is lived and not overrun by European tourists. The town is called Pano Stalos and there are beside the hotel three wonderful tavernas where one is rewarded several times for its exquisite food. There is also a small grocery store where you can buy the most necessary. The mood in town is relaxed and you greet the residents, who sits by the roadside, in gardens or on the cafe.

Orestis clearly distinguish itself in relation to other hotels primarily by the hosts Platon and Mary, both of which are doing their best to make the customers feel comfortable. There is always time for a nice chat about holidays, local conditions, politics, literature, science or what the conversation now falls into. Plato and Maria are both very knowledgeable, well informed and interested and very helpful. There are hugs and talk with the children, which are always welcome.
There is a lovely swimming pool with sun loungers and all appears well maintained and clean, both in apartments and public areas. There is a lovely little garden, where you can sit and enjoy something cold from the small bar, reading a book, get a chat and enjoy the Greek climate.
We lived in the large villa, which is just over 100 square meters and consists of two large bedrooms, a dining room, kitchen and bathroom and a large terrace overlooking the city and the valley of the many olive trees, and farther Chania and the sea.

Also this time we had a fantastic holiday, which both Plato and Maria has a large share in. This place can only be recommended for everyone, both with and without children who prefer the relaxed, calm and authentic Greek atmosphere.

We stayed two adults and two children at Orestis Hotel two weeks July 2012 and loved every moment. The owner and host, Platon, is a very nice and helpful man. He helped us hiring a car on fine conditions, he knows so many places to go in Crete and restaurants to visit. The hotel is top quality, and the apartments have lovely views from two balconies. There are three restaurants in the small village, and it is easy to drive to Chania with so many lovely restaurants, shops and fancy bars. We would definately like to go back.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at Orestis hotel/apartment. It is wonderful.
The owner is extremely helpful and kind. We were very grateful for all the time he spent giving us useful advice on best places to see in the area. He also arranged car hire for us at a reasonable price.
The apartment had everything we needed and was kept beautifully clean with frequent towel/linen changes.
The pool was much appreciated especially after walking up from the beach.
We made use also of the library.
The views from all the balconies and the peace and quiet made this a haven to return to at the end of a day.
We would heartily reccommend this hotel and hope to return.

Room Tip: All rooms have air con and great views but probably as others have said, first floor have best views...

This was, I think, our 5th vist to Platon & Maria's lovely appartments in 7 years, the first being in 2005. Harry Miller has said it all so my comments will be brief. We feel very relaxed in Pano Stalos, conversations with Platon over a coffee are wideranging, informative and generally wonderful. Platon & Maria always treat us very well. It was delightful to see them again. The beach is within easy reach, the three local tavernas are very good and the lovely Venetian town of Chania is not too far away...... Perfection. There is no doubt that we will be back
