“A simply beautiful place, just book it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

Stavros and his son, George, are wonderful hosts, you really couldn't ask for better, so friendly and warm.

I was sorry I hadn't stayed there.. I had booked the El Greco online a few doors down and found the place less than satisfactory so I spoke to one of the guests sitting at a table outside the Casa Veneta hotel who waxed lyrical about everything there and asked me if I would like to see (she had an apartment there) It was lovely! The beds were very comfortable, I sat on them, the pillows were as pillows should be, very comfortable, the flooring was marble throughout and the rooms beautiful, exquisitely decorated. You really couldn't ask for better! When the El Greco lost connection online and had to call a technician, I asked Stavros if I could use his computer to print my boarding pass and no problem at all! He's a lovely man. I wasn't a guest but was welcomed with a glass of his home made Raki. Just book this place!

Room Tip: Every room I saw was really lovely.

The Casa Veneta hotel is located on one of the most pittoresque streets in Chania, right in the city center. It is perfect to discover this antique town with its charming harbour and authentic districts. Ask Stavros or George for help and you'll get instructions for just about everything - restaurants, shopping, excursions... We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

While traveling the islands a few months ago many locals urged us to get to Chania. Nobody could tell us why. (I kept asking, trust me :) ) Everyone just kept saying "trust me, it's special, get there."

The city is special. It's especially special because it's behind old city walls so cars cannot drive there... That means we could not see it when we first arrived BY CAR, and we were completely lost for I couldn't even tell you how long. It was my fiance and I in our little rent-a-car packed to the rafters with suitcases.

All we were circling through was a concrete city, no old city walls or water anywhere. And this part of Chania was bustling with people more than anywhere else (we had come from the small population islands). So much for a "special" place; this was a headache.

After realizing we had driven in circles more times than we could count, we were about to drive straight to the airport and go somewhere else, anywhere else.

I don't know and am frankly embarrassed to even think about how long it took us to finally swallow our pride and phone a local friend for help. We did, eventually, but were not optimistic we would find anywhere good to stay anyways. Fortunately, before we could think more about it, someone by the name of George with a hotel called Casa Veneta in Old Town Chania was calling us.

We answered and within minutes George (who turned out to be the owner's son) had figured out where we were, walked 15 minutes to meet us, knocked on our car window and introduced himself quick, then hopped into our car (packed to the rafters with suitcases remember), and guided us to a foreign parking lot, told us to park, and get out.

By that point we still saw nothing "special" here but seriously had nothing to lose, and figured we would just leave in the morning (George said that the hotel only had one night available anyways). For now, at least, we had a place to stay.

All the sudden we turn a corner with George, see the panoramic view of the harbor, pass through the old city walls, and end up in the most beautiful cobblestone side street for pedestrians only and lined with the most charming boutique hotels, shops, restaurants, and people.

We didn't even check-in or get to our room at Casa Veneta until hours after-wards--because we were talking in the lobby and drinking home-made Raki and wine with George and his father for literally hours. (And with our suitcases still with us no less.) They filled us with the best conversation and the stay was superb.

Best location, most charming boutique hotel, family owned by George's family forever, lots of history, and best service.

And, there is something about Chania Harbor. "Trust me, it's special, get there."

Room Tip: All room options available, just ask: suites, flats, two-story rooms, views. Everything.

There is not much to add to the previous reviews: A warm welcome, a helpful and friendly treatment, a very clean and simple room, a fantastic location. We regret having stayed only for one night but I am sure that we will be back

The ego part of me would like to keep this hotel as my personal secret, afraid it will become too popular... But that wouldn't be fair to Stavros and George, the perfect hosts. They do what they can to make you feel welcome, and I really do! The position is great. It's close to the harbour, the city beach, shopping and restaurants but still quiet. The rooms are spacious with wifi and comfortable beds. We also had a balcony overlooking the street. So, if you are looking for a nice, small hotel with great service, this is it!

If you like us have found the perfect holiday venue in Chania you need look no further than Casa Veneta for the perfect ’Home from home’! There is something uniquely positive about greek hospitality and nobody I know encompasses this better than Stavros & George. On second visit we found the kitchen stocked with all manner of goodies, bathtowels softer than my own – and raki irresistible! Situated perfectly for the town and local beach the hotel has spotlessly clean rooms practically arranged, new beds and unbelievably good value. Visit now before they become too popular – you will not meet a friendlier pair of hosts who make the greek word Xenos – foreigner AND guest – more true.

Room Tip: Top rooms have nice balcony & view but can get a bit hot in july-august

We arrived at Chania on our way to Heraklion and spontaneously we decided to book a room for 1 night in Chania! Casa Veneta had a great price for a room and the location of the hostel is right in the middle of the old town! The hosts were very friendly and helpful, providing us with useful information (map and suggestions).

Room Tip: The room booked from bookings.com is next to the pedestrian stream, so it might be a bit noise until...

Tucked away in a narrow side street in the old quarter of Chania, Casa Veneta has plenty of olde worlde charm. It is a new, four storey building which we have sympathetically reconstructed from an old Venetian facade.
