Monte Vardia Hotel has been the hotel of choice for my family whenever they visited us in Hania over the 20 years we have lived in this beautiful town. It has also been our favorite retreat for weekend escapes.
The hotel is situated on a hill-hence the breathtaking view which you can enjoy from almost all rooms. The swimming pool (and jacuzzi) is the hotel's biggest asset. Having been in most hotels in Hania, I can safely award their pool the highest prize. And it is not just the pool that makes you indulge in the daydreaming only a relaxed vacation can offer-it's the bougainvilleas , the view, the landscaping, the blue sky...
The service is extra friendly and helpful-Mrs. Kanella and her charismatic daughter, Eleni, see to that. The lobby, dining/breakfast room, tv room are spacious and offer a billiard table, a darts corner and backgammon sets-the hotel owner's, Yannis, favorite pastimes. The breakfast buffet offers a variety of delicacies.
The rooms are clean and equipped with the necessary amenities, including air conditioning, mini-fridge for your supplies, tv set etc.
The parking lot is big-and there is a reason...The hotel is about 5 klm from Hania so the traveler/family would need a car to reach it. There is also a bus service every half hour to and from Hania, However, a car is strongly recommended for those who can afford it -Hania has so much to see and do.
Monte Vardia hotel definitely offers a relaxing experience especially for couples and families-I strongly recommend it.

This hotel is outside the city of Chania in a very quiet area. This hotel is run by a terrific family who speak perfect english and greek. We were treated to great breakfast every morning who gave us and the kids anything we wanted. The pool is quiet, BIG and very clean. The kids had a fabulous time and were treated to free ice cream. The rooms need a modern touch with updated TV and decor. Hotel experience for the price was fabulous. Again this family run hotel made us feel so welcome.

I stayed here when I was stationed here back in 1996 (Navy) and again in 2002 when we pulled in with the ship.
The owners are wonderful and very accepting! If you are willing to learn their culture and language they will embrace you more! Great food and wonderful company.
The pool is huge, clean and in a great location. The hotel is on a hill so the view is awesome. You will have to take a cab to get downtown but it is not too expensive and the hotel staff will call one for you.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. Understand that there are not the usual American aminities we are used to in our hotels. They are European! But if you staying in your room (other than to sleep) you are in Crete for the wrong reason!
And do not play darts against the owner, John. (Yani in Greek) He is very, very good!

I was a bit nervous about staying here since it had no reviews, but I was behind in securing this night's lodging so I decided to try the hotel.

The hotel is at the top of the hill between Chania and airport. This is a bad location if you want to be near the town, but is a great locaiton if you have an early flight the next day. The airport is about 10 KMs away.

We left too early to eat breakfast here and didn't want to try dinner. My only major complaint is that there is next to nothing out here open in April. We had to drive quite a distance towards town to find a place to eat. If you do not have a car, don't bother with this place. With a car, it is fine.

The hotel's website has lousy directions and no real map. Just drive out of Chania towards the airport. At the top of the steep hill it will be on your right behind a bunch of trees and bushes. If you see signs for the local military Officer's Club, you missed it.

The rooms were large and clean. The hotel looks like it has a nice pool when it is open.

I would not recommend a long stay here for most people coming to Chania. It doesn't have much character is too far from town. But for an overnight on your way in or off of Crete via the Chania airport, this is a great place.
