Villa Venezia
Reviewed July 6, 2010

Stayed with my father in this great little Villa right on the water and it was perfect. Very comfortable rooms considering the villa is over 300 years old. Naidia the manager was excellent, I had made a mistake regarding the booking that I didn't realize until I arrived and she was super helpful and patient. My father and I got to know her a little bit and she makes the place even more special.
The location could not be any more central in the harbour, within walking distance of everything. I would recommend avoiding the restaurants right on the water and try the ones behing the main waterfront strip (over priced and average food).
The restauraunt just behind the villa that is built in an old turkish bath house is unbelievable!!! Best food my father and I had in our 4 week trip in Greece.
Naidia set us up with a one day trip to Balos Lagoon and it was excellent, it is one of the top three rated beaches in the Mediterranean. We highly recommend this day trip!

Recommendable if you want to stay in the very center of an old town. The old harbour view from the windows is fantastic. Many attractive restaurants and shops all around... It is a funny process to pass the good offers one gets from all the bars and restaurants when going from or to your hotel. - Kitchen facilities in the hotel room were actually unnecessary in this area... but it is a matter of taste and habits, of course.

It is mostly a pedestrian area; impossible to take a taxi to the hotel or keep a rented car near it. The area gets especially busy and noisy in the night when every bar offers its own choice of music... "Hoppa! Hoppa!"... a nice spirit of life to hear and feel for some days.

Very good place for a short stay and a good starting point for all adventures if you use public transport or buy day tours from travel agencies (it would be hard for a longer stay, or for a stay in a very hot season or with small kids - no beach nearby, no swimmingpools).

The hostess is really nice and helpful and provides her suggestions (regarding restaurants, trips etc.) .... this is a part of the business... Look around, find alternatives and your own way in the joungle of the tourist business...

We splitted our vacation in Chanea area into two parts: Fitst - the busy time in the old city (with a lot of walking and shopping,); ant the second - the relaxed time in an all-inclusive resort with swimmingpools and unlimited "free" dirinks and food. - Two dramatically different holiday life stiles combined. - Both were good.

Villa Venezia provides free wireless internet (it does not cover all the corners of the room but one can find a place where it works).

The breakfast place, recommended by the hostess, can be recommended for its huge glass of fresh-made orange juice with ice served like a party coctail. A friendly place with internet ... very quiet at the sunny breakfast time.

The hostess (owner?) Neti was nice and helpful. There's no front desk so you ring a bell and she just kind of pops up. She recommends lots of restaurants except Korali which is the one you go through to get to the front door of the hotel which is odd. They will give you 10% off your meal just like Gallini down the way.
We looked around a lot for a good price and Villa Venezia is what we settled on. Our stay there was nice but for the price I feel there must be something better. We stayed a night at Hotel Poseidon in Rethimnon the night after we left for 23 euros less per night and it was a much nicer hotel.
The rooms are decent. Nothing special but spacious enough and they have a fridge. You control the air conditioner which is nice. The bathroom is fine but the shower is one of those handheld deals and I don't understand why anyplace with one of them doesn't put an attachment up high so you don't have to hold it the entire time while trying to bathe.
The shower has two levels and I think you're supposed to sit in it which seemed odd. We weren't on the street side so we didn't have a view (I'm sure those facing the harbor had great ones), so our room was pretty quiet.
Gallini Restaurant, which they recommend, is nice and friendly with good deals on breakfast. Plus they give you a free laptop for 30 minutes with wireless access which is nice. Kastoro which you have to walk through if you don't take the back entrance to the hotel, harrasses you everytime you come through. Every restaurant along the harbor does but it gets old really fast when you're staying upstairs. That and their prices are way too high anyway. They'll offer you free drinks so you stay and they look busy and won't hide their disappontment in you if you don't stay long or order food.
When we left, Neti said to leave a review so she knows what to improve and what works, so she cares about it which is nice. Our stay wasn't bad by any means. I would think with all the numerous hotels around the harbor (you can't spit without hitting one), that there must be a better deal is all.

Perfect location in the old Venetian Harbour of Chania, Crete. Nadi is a very welcoming person, well organised and goes out of her way to arrange anything you want. Room facilities are clean, our room had wondeful views and plenty of space. We would be happy to return and recommend to anyone as good value for money. We arrived late at night to find our key left with the taverna below. They were helpful also, carrying our bags up three flights of stairs!

We spent three wonderful days in Chania and stayed at Villa Venezia.
The surroundings are definately worth visiting, the hotel was clean and seemed to have been recently renovated, still preserving its traditional feeling.
The hotel manager, Nadi, has been very kind and helpful, suggesting us small trips to some of the best beaches of the island.

We visited Chania on July 2008. We stayed at Villa Venezia, which is located in the old harbour of the city. There are many picturesque alleys, cafes, and restaurants around and we loved talking long walks every day. The studio we stayed at was large and clean. The view to the harbour and the sea was magnificent and the room was full of light. The manager, Nadi, was really kind and has been very helpful, providing us will all the information we needed to have a pleasant and interesting stay in Chania. If we visit Chania again we would definately stay at Villa Venezia.

This was a very comfortable, personable hostel that is right in the heart of Chania Town. Very convenient to everything, great views and comfortable accommodations. If you are looking for something in this price range, I would strongly recommend it.
