I stayed at the Doge twice in June, 2012. It was clean, reasonably priced and the staff were very helpful, and friendly. It's a stone's throw from the old port, and they serve an excellent breakfast, though it is not included, as most are. Free Wifi, good ice cream, fridges, etc. in the rooms...we were very comfortable.

You had best be traveling fairly light, however, as there are many stairs, and you have to walk in to the old town, as it is closed to vehicles. Still, it was great to be right in the middle of old town, and I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: The rooms acroos the "street" are more modern and a little better appointed.

Great place to stay in Chania! Too close to the picturesque Venetian port, in the very center of the old town of Chania on a quiet pedestrian road. All sightseeing of Chania are in breath distance. The staff's hospitality is remarkable!!! They are very kind and helpful offering a really good breakfast in the morning and juices and refreshments all day long. Our room was a two storey spacious apartment with elegant and comfortable furniture! Parking places are not very far and it is easy to access the hotel from there.

I and my boyfriend visited Doge hotel in winter time and it was very quiet. The locaton is very good and beautiful in the old town. You can reach everthing in 10 min, bus station , market and you are also very close to bars coffeteries and restaurants to the beautiful old port. Personal was friendly and helpful. The room was large and the only point we noticed was that there wasn't plenty hot water. As we were informed it was because of the weather as it was cloudy and they have solar system for it.If someone is intrested to wifi should prefer a room to the main hotel , the rooms across don't have good signal that was the reason we chanced room after the first night.

This hotel was overall really lovely. The two girls who work in the lobby and prepare breakfast are what really make this hotel so desirable. We felt like family, they made us so amazingly welcomed! There is charm and ambiance surrounding this building, not to mention a feeling of actually experiencing the true authentic Crete. The negatives, were the noise factor at night especially. One night the pub a few buildings down played outrageously loud music until 5 in the morning, we literally got NO sleep that entire night. Additionally in the early morning there is a fair amount of noise as the street below prepares for the day. Overall, we did love our 2 weeks there (yes we stayed the whole 2 weeks). We managed to find parking at a near by public park, otherwise it was a problem to park our rental car. Word of advise, if you leave early in the morning (before 8am) you can actually access the street with a car to load up your luggage, which was really necessary as we had lots of bags and carrying them several blocks was a struggle when we had arrived.

Room Tip: Room 1A across the street from the lobby building, up one flight of stairs is wonderfully sunny and...

Stayed 3 nights in Doge Hotel. First 2 nights where in rooms across from the main Hotel. Good sized room, plenty of space as well as having a sink and fridge. Pleasantly decorated. A bit noisy at night and early in the mornings, but what can you expect in the centre of a town. Nowhere to park nearby as it is in the Old Town area, so if you hire a car you will have to park about a 10 mins walk away at the large parking area along the seafront. We travelled around Crete for the next 4 days then returned to the Doge for a 3rd night. This time we were given a room in the main hotel buiding. This room was beautiful and outshone the previous one we were given, the room had 4 beds and a gallery area above which had the main sleeping area. Again a fridge was available and it was a far superior decorated room.
If the Doge had decorated all their rooms like this I would have given them 5 stars.
Very clean rooms which had all you would want for a stay in Chania.
The Hotel is conveniently located near the harbour area so its handy for eating out etc.

Room Tip: ask to see several rooms as the 2 we stayed in varied greatly in decor.

Best part of this place was that it is right in the middle of Chania town. Our room is on the third floor which would be trouble for those with lots of luggage as there is no porter service. As we have heard about noisy rooms for those facing the walking streets, we specifically asked for a quiet room. Our room was quiet but we can't open the windows as it was facing a dump sort of place. Overall, it is a huge basic room though it feels half-complete.

We do enjoy the breakfast arrangement where tables were laid along the walking street and we had freshly cut fruits, jam, coffee and toast which is what holidays should be. Having said that, we went during the shoulder season and I think it may be that fun during the peakperiod when there will be hoardes of tourists walking past you during breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room or be prepared to be disturbed by the music from the bars
