“The only place to stay in Chania!”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

The staff, the room, the view, the breakfast - everything was perfect. We were lucky enough to have booked the Honeymoon suite which is certainly the best room in all of Chania. As everyone has stated already and in fact I echo everyone elses sentiments, this boutique hotel is in the perfect location, just a short walk from the public parking, the breakfast totally fresh, healthy and delicious, with the main dish changing daily and much more than we could possibly eat, in the most gorgeous breakfast room with views over the harbour. The staff were just excellent. Maria greeted us like a favourite sister, and we felt totally at home straight away, this is a very intimate and friendly hotel so its more like a b & B, but definitely the best one I have ever stayed in. She kept the rooms immaculate. Antonia was the perfect hostess bright and cheerful and she spent ages giving us great advice on where to visit - like our personal tourist guide. Free use of computer whenever it was available was such a boon. The terrace of the honeymoon suite is lovely and private, and a great place to chill at the end of the busy bustling day, yet we were just 2 minutes walk when you left the building to the centre of everything. Our bed and pillows was so comfortable and Im so choosy as I have a bad neck, but slept like a baby (when the town settled down). The ensuite is tiny but this is an old building and there was room for all of our bits and pieces so was more than happy. Plently of storage space in the room. A little bar fridge, tea making facilities and the airconditioning was working very well even tho it was very hot whilst we were there - mid 30's.
I checked out every place in town before booking and looked at some of our other choices whilst there but none were as perfect as Casa Leone. Dont even think abt staying anywhere else. As its in pedestrian zone, and as with any historical centre, consider taking less luggage.
We had no noise from other guests even tho full, and you are in the middle of town so expect some street noise or music til late as with all town centres. However I could not fault this beautiful boutique hotel, and wouldnt stay anywhere else. Well done, Casa!!

We stayed here for three nights on our honeymoon to Greece in the honeymoon suite. The view from the balcony is fantastic, and so is the location and the breakfast every morning. The only reason I'm not giving the hotel 5 stars is due to the noise. All of the rooms open to the common area of the hotel, so you can hear other guests coming and going and if someone is watching tv in the common area you can easily hear it. Also, the harbor itself can be quite noisy on the weekends, but that is understandable due to the great location of the hotel.

Overall, definitely recommend Casa Leone unless you are a light sleeper!

We stayed at this hotel on our honeymoon and it was the best service that we received at any hotel on our trip. After our ferry from Santorini was delayed getting into Heraklion we had an "interesting" drive across the island to Chania. Despite having directions to the hotel and a map we had great difficulties finding the hotel in the dark. We rang the hotel and spoke to a man whose English wasn't the best so he gave us another number to ring. We rang the other number and got his wife out of bed (by this stage it was 1am) and she told us to wait where we were and her husband would come and meet us. Soon after, a lovely man greeted us on his scooter and guided us to a car park and assisted in getting our luggage to the hotel - he was our saviour as we were discussing driving back to a hotel we had passed on the side of the road outside Chania. We were shown to our room which was picture perfect. We booked the honeymoon suite which was the only upstairs room and had a private terrace with uninterrupted views over the harbour - we were certainly glad we persisted!

A delicious breakfast was served in the reception area each morning, however we had an early morning start one day to go to Knossos and were given a packed breakfast to take with us which was great!

We used the free internet in the foyer and had many friendly chats with the owners who were keen to get to know us and also share the fascinating history of the restored Venetian palace.

The hotel is ideally located - central to museums, restaurants, shopping, beaches and of course - right on the harbour.

The room was spacious and well decorated with a huge canopy bed. The private terrace was perfect for watching the sunset with a bottle of wine.

The service was a highlight - nothing was too much trouble.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Room Tip: Book the honeymoon suite for the private terrace! There is a spiral stair case up to this room which...

We have just returned from the Casa Leone after a week of understated pleasure. I could write about all the wonderful things other travellers have commented on re the Casa Leone. The service, the views, the breakfasts, the rooms, the hospitality, the location, the extra touches, the comfortable bed with mozzie net, the air conditioning being wonderfully quiet and much more. However, the thing that struck us most was the ease of staying in this wonderfull hotel, everything is understated luxury, in such away you immediately feel comfortable and relax into the Creatian hospitality.
If you are looking for all of the above, don't mind spending a little bit more, then this is the hotel for you.
Thank you to all at The Casa Leone for making our holiday one to remember for all the right reasons.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 2 on the front of the hotel over looking the harbour. I would recommend as this is...

What a beautiful hotel! My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon this summer. There are only 5 rooms, and so received very dedicated service-- especially with our crazy travel schedule which involved checking in at midnight and checking out at 5 am. They even made sandwiches for us to take when we checked out since we'd be missing breakfast! The location is great-- right on the old port, but on the far side, so slightly more removed from all the action. It is also about a 20 minute walk to the beach. Breakfast was exceptional-- huge & delicious. We would definitely come back here-- hope to some day!

My wife and I we travel quite a bit and have stayed in a lot of very nice hotels and B&B’s, but Casa Leone has got to be one of the best places we have stayed in.
It is a small hotel with only 5 bedrooms, each bedroom furnished and decorated in its own unique way.
The owner Nikolai and his wife Anna try to make your stay as warm and welcoming as possible, nothing is too much trouble for them.
On arrival we where shown to our room personally by Nikolai and ran through all details we needed to know. There was complementary bottle of white and red wine, bottled water; a fridge and a safe in the room, at no extra charge, also provided are slippers and a bath robe. There is also free wifi in the rooms and guide books on reception to read and use if required.
A very special lady Antonia who is hotel manageress greets you every morning with a wonderful smile and the most amazing breakfast, consisting of, freshly squeezed orange juice, yoghurt, honey, fruit, fresh bread cakes, boiled eggs and on top of that, each morning Nikolai endeavours to give you at least one Cretan dish, freshly cooked to try with your breakfast.
Maria another wonderful Greek Lady keeps the hotel spotlessly clean. Our room was cleaned every day with clean sheets and towels also changed daily. Antonia and Maria are both amazing, taking care of your every need and the smallest of details. The owner Nikolai even return at 6pm on the night we left, with more delicious Cretan food and to say goodbye. Then he proceeded to help us with our luggage to a waiting taxi.
If you have booked to stay there you will not be disappointed, if you haven’t then do so as you are missing out on a wonderful experience, it is like stepping back into a little bit of Greek history..
The town of Chania is a beautiful Greek town full of history and mystery, lots of tiny streets to explore and fabulous restaurants to taste genuine Cretan food, our favourite was Tavern Strata. There is so much to do and see. The beech there is also well worth a visit.
The Casa Leone is a very elegant hotel, all the staff there, are very warm and welcoming, you felt like part of the family. They really do go out there way to make your stay there very special, We had the most amazing 2 weeks and we would recommend it to anyone, cannot wait to return again.

I returned to Casa Leone for a second time this year – and will always return to this wonderful hotel when I'm in Chania. The service and friendless of the owner and staff are second-to-none. It has the charm of an intimate boutique hotel but not the snobbishness which so often accompanies them: it's like staying with friends or family. One of the most memorable highlights of our Cretian holiday was sitting in our pyjamas on the balcony on a warm, balmy evening overlooking the old Venetian-influenced port, being served copious cups of iced coffee and freshly-squeezed orange juice. It was only when settling the bill the next morning – after the most delicous breakfast – that we discovered these drinks were complimentary. That's the magic of this place… I highly recommend it and can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front overlooking the old Venetian-influenced port have the best views.
