Stayed here in winter and in spring. Rooms were clean and basic , staff were very helpful and breakfast was excellent. The position is ideal and the roof terrace is perfect for the summer.

We booked this through Venere, and got a brilliant rate of 50E a night, which was by far and away the best we could find in Chania. Ideal for us, I'd asked for a balcony and got a first floor room with a traditional balcony overlooking the street, which was ace for people watching and watching the world go by. Very minor niggles, chairs instead of stools on the balcony and a small table would have been nice, and one of our matresses had definetely seen better days. However, we didn't ask for replacements so can't complain really! A kettle and some cups would also have improved it but we had a fridge and free (excellent) air con. Room was small but perfectly adequate for our needs. Roof terrace was a revelation, we didn't find it until well into our second week, the view has to be one of the best in, and of, Chania.
Didn't eat in hotel so can't comment on food. Room cleaned every day and regular sheet and towel changes. Anna on reception was lovely.
All in all, an excellent base to explore Chania and surrounding area, we didn't have a car as buses are so good. Would stay here again, but would also look on the internet for rooms /apts, as there were lots around, and outside of high season, I think you could easily find availability although not tried it.

Reading the other reviews of this hotel, I think we were unlucky. We were given a room on the ground floor, which meant a lot of noise coming from the hall AND the dining room. The room was quite small and had no view at all - a small door led to a wall (which was part of the city's ancient walls, as we later discovered - but a wall nonetheless), so there was very little light.
Another problem was the parking, which was not provided and a nightmare to find in an overcrowded Chania (the hotel is in a pedestrian area which means you have to walk up there dragging your luggage).
On the plus side, staff was nice and the location perfect - a nice street in a quiet area of the town.
I'd say - go there, but not in August if you want a pleasant stay and a bigger room...

When you walk west on the restaurant-lined Chania pier, just in front of the eclectic maritime museum - go up the cobbled stome street and at its end turn left. A charming street, with some small restaurant and layed back coffe shops opens, and among them is the El Greco.
We got one of the two roof rooms - meaning that we had to lug our suitcases from the 3rd floor elevator up a wooden spiral staircase to the roof. The effort IS worth it. The room was spacious and charming, the tables on the roof top invited us to sit for a relaxing (albeit very hot) time looking at the chaming view of the city and the harbor.
The room has a small refrigirator, so you can keep some water in it, and if you can resist all the abundance of restaurants, you can also keep your food in there and have a picnic on the roof. Bring plates and utensils, as the room does not have any.
The staff was very helpful, and there is quite big "travelers library" in the loby - you can exchange your finished paperback for what other people left.
We selected not to have breakfast at the hotel, however it was a good buffet priced very reasonably at 7 euro. We had breakfast on the pier (with the view) and paid more for a smaller breakfast.
I warmly recommend this hotel.

The hotel was spotless! The reception staff (24 hrs) were really friendly and helpful! Location was great too... near the beach and Old Town!
