“Fresh ingredients, gracious services”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2014

Evie's is a family-owned and operated cafe/restaurant. Evie's mother does the cooking while Evie herself greets customers and ensures your visit is relaxed and refreshing. The vegetables are fresh and from their local family farm. I highly recommend the shrimp avocado, which uses avocados grown on their farm. Each meal concludes with fresh fruit and a dose of Raki, which Evie's father produces himself.

“average food, average restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2014

We sat down at this restaurant basically for a lunchtime snack under a cooling fan away from the searing afternoon sun, we had a mixed meze of greek salad, meatballs, burger, aubergine slipper, stuffed tomato, courgette balls & frozen chips, meal was ok but not exceptional & at 27euros including 1 litre of retsina not particularly cheap. Would not go back in view of the more appealing, extensive competition.

“Good value, good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

We had lunch here a couple of times and also a couple of dinners.

Like a lot of tavernas in Chania town, Evie's menu has a lot of 'meal deals' where you can have a wide choice of mains plus a small Greek salad or tzatziki plus a glass of wine/beer or soft drink. These are very good value.

On our visits we ate: soutsoukakia, moussaka, stifado, spaghetti bolognaise, souvlaki and OH had sea bream several times. Sometimes the chips were frozen, other times they seemed to be fresh.

OH really enjoyed the fish which was cooked perfectly. The stifado was a bit disappointing with not much sauce and no onions.

Be warned - the salads are very, very big indeed. We heard one lady jokingly say 'I ordered Greek salad for me, not the whole restaurant'.

This is a very small point but the olive oil on the table is wonderful! Evie said it came from their own olive trees.

We were offered free raki and yoghurt, bananas or strawberries and honey.

Evie is a very outgoing lady, very chatty and helpful about menu choices if you're struggling but, unlike some of the waiters at other tavernas, Evie is not pushy about trying to get you in her place.

This taverna is in a great location for people watching, on a 4 way pedestrian junction, just off the main street (Halidon) and close to the church.
