We were recommended Manos at Safari Adventures by Manousakis Winery and they made the reservation for us. Incredibly reasonable at €70 return from our villa in Kolymbari, Manos was informative, friendly and keen to show off his beautiful island. We drove through the valley towards the winery stopping for oranges, avocados and whatever else was freely growing along the way. He dropped us at the winery then came back a few hours later to take us back by a different mountain road - a way we would never have dared to try ourselves but was great fun in his big Land Rover.

Me and my girlfriend went on this trip up in the Crete mountains! (1150 meters above sea level)!!

It was a "cloudy" day - which was perfect for this trip!

We saw Mr Manousakis grapes and wineyard and winery! We also tasted six (6!) wines, which one was rated the best in Crete (tasted delicious).

Our guides were social and awsome.

We really recommend you to go in this trip! This is really something for those who want to see more than just beaches and lie all day in the sun!

They show you the real crete culture beyond the tourist strokes.

We also had the luck to eat real cretan food and drink cretan wines - all 100% local produced, we also bought honey from the local people.

Just fu***** awsome! ;)

My wife and I were fortunate to have both Manos and Alexis on our tour as we were the only passengers that day. After being picked up at our villa our first stop was the olive processing plant. It turned out to be a very worthwhile and informative stop. I never knew olive oil could be so different in tastes. And a shot of raki after the tasting (not for the drivers) always goes down well. Next stop was a winery where we met the lady of the house who showed us the family chapel (Creten people are so friendly) before tasting some wonderfull wines finished off with a taste of a dessert wine that was worth the trip on its own. Purchased a bottle hoping it would last a week. 2 days saw it off. Next we travelled into the mountain region driving through some beautiful country stoping at little country churches and having some fantastic views from the top. Next we stopped for lunch at the home of a local couple in a small village. Once again Creten hospitality at its best. I was happy to help the man of the house finish off a bottle of his homemade wine. As usual in Crete the food was plentiful and delicious. After lunch we did some more exploring and had an unscheduled stop over at the drivers uncle's house. Of course the uncle invited us in for a drink of his own raki and we were shown around his cellar where his barrels of wine are kept and his raki still. Then on the last leg of our trip we visited the creten knife museum where we could see the craftmanship of the creten knife makers. Some very interesting weapons on display. A cup of greek coffe and dropped off back at our villa. All in all a throughly enjoyable day and one we would recommend to anybody who wants to get off the beaten track and experience the real Crete. We wish Manos and Alexis well in their venture as they have put a lot of thought and effort into their business.

Did both tours and had a great time. The drivers are great, they really enjoy socializing with the passengers and they do a great job at both driving, and guiding. Both wineries were great, one has an amazing view, the other has an outstanding dessert wine. Both village trips were outstanding, one being more of a tourist area that has a lot of important history of Crete with a beautiful little museum, the other being a very secluded village with the more caring Cretan hospitality. The olive oil mill was a very interesting tour which thoroughly explained the milling process of olive oil while finishing off with a tasting of their fantastic oils. The Mitatos were also a very interesting and history-filled experience with more fantastic views. The Cretan knife museum was nice and private, which was a very nice experience, very unique. I highly suggest this trip to couples and groups of friends or family. Due to the wineries, I wouldn't suggest this for groups with children under 18.
