Great Pad. Great location for local shops, Tavernas and harbour. Not so small with four floors including roof terrace. Owner very nice with informe recommendations. We really enjoyed our four days here.

Charming, characterful property sensitively and sympathetically converted and decorated...a little oasis of calm within the bustle of the old town. Lots of thoughtful additions;- supply of 2 bikes, beach bag with towels and snorkels, shampoo & hairdryer, good internet connection, complementary oils and condiments in the kitchen facilitating easy self catering. Lovely owners.... an absolute gem...a Shirley Valentine moment...really did not want to leave/ have every intention of returning.

To Spiti is located conveniently within Chania town. Inside the house attention to detail is second to none, the owners have thought of everything. It was like being in a 5 star hotel without the price tag, it was simply amazing and deserves consideration if you are visiting Chania! I would highly recommend To Spiti and Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Not suitable for small children due to spiral staircase, but for older children or couples, just per...

This is a lovely self-catering house in a great location - the leafy Splanzia square - from which you're free to explore the whole of Chania (on foot). The roof terrace is what sold it for us and we made very good use of it for lounging, eating and sitting out under the stars.

It took us a night to get used to the church bells (every hour and twice in the morning!) but that was the only downside to a great property. They could benefit from a DVD player and electric kettle, but otherwise the comfy bed, decor, cleanliness and facilities are spot on.

Our tips: visit the local farmer's market on a Saturday and then cook yourself up a feast! Take the bus to Kalimaki beach (the city beach is just a 15-20mins walk but the beaches you can visit by bus are picture-postcard lovely). The local bakery is great for your breakfast loaf, and the local shop does a decent wine that's €3 for 1Litre!

Room Tip: There are lots of steps in this property but you soon get used to it.

We stayed at "To Spiti" ( meaning "The House") for 7 days in July 2012 and it was an absolutely magical experience!! Firstly, the house is a Byzantine period home which has been restored by its owner and yet has kept many aspects of its past- so it is full of old world charm! The house was perfect for our family of 4, as we had the main bedroom upstairs and the children ( aged 12 and 14) slept on sofa beds on the mezzanine level. It was very comfortable! The house is self - catering with clean linen, fully functioning kitchen and washing machine ( needed sorely when travelling!) and a good bathroom. The rooftop terrace upstairs was magical with a perfect view into Splantzia Square and the bell tower of St Nicholas' church with distant water views of Hania harbour in the backdrop. The ringing of the church bell on Sunday mornings and on the hour was something special ,transporting us to a different age of simplicity and innocence! The ambience of that terrace was amazing and to be enjoyed at any time of the day. It was absolutely beautiful and just thinking of it now brings tears to my eyes.

The location of "To Spiti" is by far the best one could ask for in Hania. It is away from the noise of the harbourfront yet so close via a 5 minute walk. Parking was a bit tricky but manageable as a car was certainly needed to explore Crete properly. It is right next to Splantzia Square which is a quaint town square with a trendy/ modern feel to it and a beautiful bakery/ coffee shop serving coffees and snacks under the shade of the square's big tree! Again, we felt that we had been transported to another time. It was very hard to say goodbye at the end of our week here!

Tasso, the owner/manager is a most delightful guy with a huge smile and the most accommodating manner. He was an absolute gentleman and nothing was too much trouble for him. His graciousness and hospitality will amaze you.
"To Spiti" is a beautiful place to stay and to explore the beauty and history of Chania Town. It is a perfect base if wanting to stay away from the crowds but so close to the beautiful Venetian harbour and its tavernas. Tasso had many suggestions for eateries and day trips and he was able to provide us with maps and recommendations which were spot on!

We highly recommend "To Spiti" and have vowed to return in the not too distant future to enjoy some more Cretan hospitality! Look it up on google for photos and information. You will not be disappointed!
