“Relaxation in Chania”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

We stayed at Rodon Hotel 4th to 11th June. A wonderful small hotel just a 10 minute bus ride from the old town of Chania. Rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfast fresh, and the best swimming pool for this size of hotel I have seen. What makes the Rodon stand out is the amazing service the family owners provide. Nothing is to much trouble for them. A great place to stay to explore Chania and the Akritiriou at very good prices too!

This hotel was fantastic in every way. Large room and, although the bathroom itself was a bit small, the washbasin just outside the bathroom had lots of space for toiletries etc. Excellent service, great breakfast.
The hotel is built on the style of many American motels with the corridors overlooking the gardens which are fantastic. Both inside and out, you will find the most amazing collection of unusual plants and cacti.
The staff just couldn't do enough for us, it was at this point in our holiday that I realised the cigarette lighter on the hire car wasn't working, meaning I had no way of charging my mobile 'phone. No problem, they were able to loan me a mains adaptor so problem solved.
From the hotel it's about a 30 or 40 minute downhill walk to Chania old town and the return bus drops you right by the hotel.
Definitely a hotel we'll be returning to on our next visit to Crete.

After 3 days at a pokey hotel in the old town it was a relief to stay in a more spacious hotel with a superb pool and a peaceful location. The bathroom is a bit small, true, but the rooms are nice with large balconies. It's on the way to the airport, and very convenient to visit the Akritori beaches. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Building interestingly designed - around 1995 I gather. Would stay here again.

Having read the other reviewes I was disappointed by the quality of the hotel. Signage to the hotel was extremely poor and due to the fact that the garden areas were very overgrown it took a while before we realised that we had actually arrived at our destination!! Things didn't really improve. We arrived at our double room to find it small and bland. Asked if there was another room and were given the keys to the room next door. This was slightly larger but included a single bed. The bathroom was so small that the wash basin was situated in the main bedroom , partitioned by a large semi circular wall, which allowed me the benefit of watching my husband shaving in the morning from the comfort of my bed!!! Breakfast was a cold affair with the only hot option being boiled eggs, cooked by yours truly in a purpose built egg boiler. No toaster!! I can appreciate that we went off season but got the impression that we were the only guests. Breakfast was a rather lonely affair!!! Total staff x 2 were very friendly so that was a bonus. All in all felt as though we were in the local hostel.

On a hillside overlooking Chania you find this quiet oasis. A bit of a walk to the town (it took me appx 30 min) but equally relaxing and away from the tourist track. The pool area is great, and i had it virtually for my self (never more than 5 peolpe there during my 9 days long stay) and it is 25 m, so you can actually do meaningful laps!

The hotel is mostly occupied by long term contactors working on the military facilities near by, or by "friends" of the hotel coming back year after year.

There are some great resturants not too far from the hotel, such as "winds from the sea", just down to the waterfront, or the road side souvlaki- joint 100 m down the maon road.. Excellent souvlaki!

You can also easily take the bus (14) down town, it goes every 15 min and costs about 1,20 €.

The breakfast is good, and is usually included in the very reasonable rates. Freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals, bread, and fresh fruits.

The rooms are also cleaned every day, and the staff is friendly. A very positive experience.

The breakfast is good and usuallybincluded,

I have stayed here 3 times now and absolutely love it, it is a wonderful relaxing family run hotel. It is a good location if you hire a car but is also only a short bus journey into the centre of chania. Would definitely recommend it!

We have visited this hotel nearly every year for the past ten years.
A warm and friendly reception is guaranteed from the owner Georgia and staff. The hotel rooms and grounds are kept very clean. There is only a typical greek buffet breakfast on offer, consisting of yogurt, fruit ,bread, cheeses and cold meats along with Cretan honey, but this is all we want as the hundreds of Greek restaurants in Chania town centre are only minutes away.
The lovely and unique pool in Chania is a great chill out after a days sight seeing in this lovely part of Crete.
In our opinion the hotel offers tremendous value for money and a haven of peace from the noise of the town centre and is an ideal location for those wanting a good nights sleep.

  • Liked — Close to old town, but a quiet and peaceful retreat with a lovely pool.
  • Disliked — Nothing
