“Not as good as it used to be but still a great setting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

We have been to Ela every time we have come to Crete since 1995. The atmosphere remains great in the shell of an old building in the backstreets of the town, but having sought it out again this time we were disappointed that standards seem to have slipped. The whitebait were too large and so full of bones and the prawns were more shell than meat and all was accompanied by the scourge of the commercial taverna ... chips! Shame but I guess nothing lasts forever.

“Great food in a superb setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013

This restaurant is set in an old derelict building (you can read its history in the menu) which makes for a very spectacular and rare setting. It is a taverna so the setting is fairly basic but the food was delicious. We had the house specials Ela Veal and the Ela Goat Stew (for two) and both were equally delicious. I have never known goat to taste so good. Well worth a visit and sitting in an open ruin was really cool (a nice change from the hot day we had).

“Average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

The restaurant is located in a very pretty little backstreet & this provided a lovely setting for the meal.

The food was reasonably priced but we found it to be quite average really, no better than any other local tavernas despite its good reputation.

The service was fairly good, although we had to ask for our bill 20 minutes after we had finished and our plates had still not been cleared.

Overall an average taverna providing mostly traditional Greek dishes in a lovely setting.

“Very good - and they know it!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

This restaurant provided a nice shade on a hot day. In addition this is well kept, well tendered and have nice bath rooms. All in all catered well for the family with good pizzas and great Greek food. The restaurant advertise their high rating in various tourist guides outside the restaurant. Prices are higher in Chania than on the country side. Despite this look of a "tourist trap", the food is surprisingly good and the restaurant can be highly recommended.
