Traditional Greek and Cretan local cuisine, including century- old dishes of Turkish and Jewish influence on Cretan food. Specialties are cooked in ceramic pots on a wood -burning stove. We use only local and fresh ingredients .We have a large selection of gluten -free dishes and gluten- free bread. Situated in a romantic and quiet, graphic small lane in the heart of the old Venetian Port . Outdoor seating, Ideal for special occasions. Very suitable for families with children. There are a few reasons why I return to the Hani.

Foremost is probably the very charming and careful host who tours the table, takes orders, chides staff as necessary, makes sure every guest is happy. The food is also very good - the local speciality tsigariasto (braised goat or lamb) is probably the best I have had bar a half hour drive into the mountains. Ingredients are fresh and high quality and cooked consistently well - on a wood fire too, which I gather is unique among the old harbour restaurants.

Prices are a little higher than some but well worth it for the quaity of the food, a lovely setting, no hustle and excellent and charming customer care. One of the few places in Chania that I would feel completely safe in sending any friend, colleague, client, erc.

“Our favorite restaurant during our trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

We came here because of the TA reviews and we absolutely loved it. We even went back the night before leaving! The attention at first seemed slow (but we realized it was like that in every restaurant), but overall very good. The Kleftiko was our favorite dish! But anything with lamb was delicious. The appetizers were also amazing, and the local wine was good! They give you some free dessert which was really delicious (I think it was a yogurt cake) and raki. Highly recommended!!!

“Friendly and good just across the Synagogue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

This restaurant is located just across Etz Hayyim synagogue. After a visit of the synagogue which is a sad experience since the Germans exterminated the whole jewish population of the island, you can rest and indulge into a very friendly and good restaurant. The menu is based on local food and it did hit our palate with unforgettable tzatziki and sheep cheese, fresh and excellent bread and raki on the house as digestif. It is the typical reliable and very local Greek taverna which is an endangered species under heavy tourist pressure. Seems like many of them being ready to eat anything served without appreciating the uniqueness of a specific local, cretan menu in this case.

“Just right!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

We were on an all inclusive deal at our hotel so were hoping for the opportunity to sample some good Cretian food on our day out in Chania and were not disappointed. The restaurant is tucked away and we would have missed it if it wasnt for the lovely friendly lady who pointed out its location and that they cooked in authentic clay ovens - we were won over and were very glad that we decided to try it.

The Kleftiko was excellent and went perfectly with the crisp potatoes and greek salad. The home made raki and little sweets rounded it off perfectly.

Definitely worth a visit!
